I want to try out a new theme for my blog as i will be adding more content soon and the current theme is not very well designed for multiple sources of content

Is it possible to copy over my blog to my server and set it up on a new theme so i can make sure the current content will fit in right with the new theme

I have my blog hosted on a hosting provider but i own a dedicated server that i could setup a duplicate site to test out a new theme.

How would i go about doing this?

I don't know about copying whole blogs but when it comes to testing the look and feel of a new theme, what I did is create a subdomain e.g. test.domainname.com and experimented to my heart's content there.

ye this will do, i dont care whether its a sub domain or on my server, i just want somewhere i can test a theme, without changing my current blog

so creating a sub domain is easy, how do i go about duplicating the blog from here?

Is your blog Wordpress? If so you install a new Wordpress platform on the subdomain.

You would then go to Tools>Export on your current blog and download the file. On your sub-domain go to Tools>Import and upload that same file. Your content should then be there.

There's a little mroe informatiom if you scroll down to Wordpress on this page: Importing Content WordPress Codex
