What do you think is the next big trend in web design?

For example, in late 2006 Web 2.0 style was coming of age.... big fonts.... pastel colors.... shot copy.

Now what do you think is the most dominant trend?

html5 and css3 hands down. the new stuff coming out (see mrdoobs.com) blows me away.
and with time, that same experience will be tv based as well. imagine all the neat interfaces we will be able to create and have them delivered on the big screen. woohoo!
that is of course unless the 2012ers are right, then the next big thing will just be survival of the species

I agree with raskamuda, in my opinion flash will be the next trend. It has already started being more popular because it is secure, cannot copy-paste it easily, it supports videos so friendly etc..

web 2.0 has nothing to do with fonts or pastel colors - its about being interactive.

web 1 - static sites that people could not interact with.

web 2 - sites that people can join and post their own content.

Web 2.0 was way before 2006. It started back in the late 1990s and early 2000s with the innovation of database driven content management systems like phpnuke, postnuke and forums.

What do I think is the next big trend?

Sites based off mobile technology. In other words, sites designed for smart phones - iphone, droid, and the new microsoft phone that is supposed to be on the way.

Currently sites are designed for 1024X768 and higher screen resolution. I look for sites to have mobile browser features. So that when someone views a site on a smart phone, they get a special theme and layout.

Recent reports say that smart phone sales are catching up with PC sales. Web site developers are going to have to re-think their design models to meet the rise in smart phone popularity.

Silverlight might just get the attention it needs. I think that Silverlight is often underestimated by some of the developers. It is really very powerful and I think its fun coding with it as I know .NET. There are various tools which are good enough to get powerful content easily.
