    Hi Kim,

The best WYSIWYG editor is DreamWeaver, hands down . It has
been since I started Web design in 2000. It looks like the newest
version was just released recently but it costs four hundred bucks.

It's not necessary for what you need to do. NVU, an open source
editor runs like a dream as long as it's set up properly.

The same people that released NVU have developed a new editor
called Kompozer, which is the "bug fix" formerly NVU version.

I own a free minisite training membership site that will show you
everything you need to do, and you can save your money for
    other resources.

Let me know if you need any help. Just PM me if you have any
    questions.

    Take care,

    Bryan

You can either choose Dreamwaever otherwise frontpage also works fine for a newbie

For almost 2 years, I've only used NVU....

Dreamweaver would be much better but I can't really figure out the correct way to use it.... lol... :p

I use NVU never had any problems.

  • you don't really need one at all.

you can find hundreds if not thousands of free minisite templates around.

then just open them in your text editor ( word pad etc. )
add your meta tags or whatever you want. then save and open in your browser to see the changes.

now, I agree, that a wysiwyg editor is much easier to use.
NVU is good, there are many, many out there.
Dreamweaver is simply way overboard for something like this unless you already have it and know how to use it.
Frontpage is the same and it will take a simple minisite page and turn it into a huge file with lots of extra junk to take up server space, etc.

The best is NetObjects, there is a free copy here: Free Website Design Software

Dreamweaver is fine, but who has time to learn it.

Kompozer is supposed to be improved over NVu, both are free.

I like FrontPage 2003 which was the last version of FrontPage. Microsoft has discontinued it and replaced it with Expression Web.

Get Expression Web on EBay for $55-75

Both FrontPage and Expression Web will help you keep things straight when you include and image, change a files name or location so that things will still work correctly. It will copy (Publish) your website's files from your computer to your website or it will copy things going the other way. (The way it refers to Local and Remote is NOT always the way things really are, so make sure you know that it is going to copy the right site to the right site)

If you remove from view the 2 side panels from the normal view of Expression Web you will be almost at an updated FrontPage looking interface.

This would be a better setup for a newbie, I think.

I think that it is a good investment to go with either of them at the $55-75 price.

Expression Web displays your changed pages in your Browser instead of having a Preview window within the application.

      It's fun, come on tryit!

  • frontpage creates those silly vti folders all over your server. in some cases they are full of duplicates of the verys same files you have in your normal folders. I never have figured out why it does that, but it sure takes up a lot of space.

Great thing with Dreamweaver : You can work directly on your webserver without having to do tons of upload and stuff like that. I don't think that understanding dreamweaver is so hard, I mean, you don't have to know EVERY functions included with dreamweaver, you can use it you create basics pages easily, tough to beat for me.

I've used Kompozer and NVU and found them to be pretty good. You can find free or paid templates for mini-sites all over the web and then either edit them in Kompozer or in html using your Text Edit or Notepad programs.

The other alternative that I really like is Xsite Pro 2 it allows you to manage a lot of sites with a little effort, and also lets you change the templates with ease if you don't like the look of them.

        Good luck.

If you are just needing it for simple things like meta tags then I would use Notepad (should already be on your computer). If you need a little more then I use NVU or Kompozer.
