I've been looking over all the information I can find about SSL- trying to find out how it works, what it does, and step-by-step instructions on how to put it on my website.

Anybody have any good resources?

    And there is certainly no lack of information on Google on the subject.

    If your intention is to simply configure an SSL certificate on your site then I suggest that you contact the certificate vendor and/or your host (if you are purchasing a certificate from a 3rd party as opposed to from your host). Each one has a slightly different installation procedure.

    Depending upon the type of hosting you have...your hosting provider may install an SSL on your hosting for a fee. So you won't need to drive yourself nuts learning about it!

    I would contact your host first.
