If you mean registering blogs at places like Blogger, Wordpress, Tumblr, Weebly, etc., then yes.
This is a common and tested method to build up a content network you can post on to funnel visitors to your site in addition to creating backlinks.

I will totally agree with him. Something that I will do and I do is not just post for the sanity to get links.

I do post but information that is helpful to other users and it will help them. But in fact, you can do whatever you want. Don't overdo-it, everything in excess is not good.

Yes.. this works.. but make sure its not .. all your own hosted website linking to each other... this doesnt work so much for seo when it seems its coming from the same ip..

(i sometimes wonder if im posting too basic information in these forms... oh well.. maybe someone doesnt know these things.. )

Everyone is giving great advice. I'd just like to add to not forget to create backlinks for your backlinks. For every blog you create that points to your money site, make sure you at minimum create/point profile links (Angela/Pauls type links) to your backlinks.
Also, make sure your RSS is set up correctly. (And add them to aggregators).
And if a lot of your blogs are on the same host, at least make sure the IPs have a different C class.

If you don't create backlinks to your backlinks, Google will take forever to even find your backlinks

Look up "Link Wheels".

In order to generate links, you can opt for posting unique and exclusive content in blogs like WordPress, Blogger, Weebly etc. It's indeed an effective technique!
