What are your thoughts on site creation?

I am planning on creating a fairly simple site where I'll basically just contain content and an opt in box. My index will be the opt-in with a newsletter/free something and then I will just have different pages of the site with content. With this in mind, would you recommend installing Wordpress and making it a blog or using an HTML editor such as kompozer? I'm fairly new at this and I'd like to know which is better for my purposes.
If Wordpress, where is somewhere I can learn the functions and all about it?
Thanks,
Joe

If you dont wish to learn code.. wordpress has made life pretty easy on that front... id find a template you like and go with that option...

if you want to learn code a bit.. then html made sites that are not blogs.. will always allow for more flexibility and design to your exact needs and wants..

I use wordpress for all my sites...These days it is more than just a blog. With all the plugins etc you can use it as a complete CMS.

The best place to learn about wordpress is from wordpress itself...wordpress.org is the official site.

You can download free themes from there to get yourself started and if you are interested in the coding side of things, try looking at codex.wordpress.org

I will go with Wordpress first if you have never build a site before.

The other option even that people say that it is to hard or whatever they want to say is Joomla. I found Joomla really easy to use for myself.

I would also recommend you to go with WordPress. The plugins are great and most of them are great. As well, Google loves WordPress.

      Good luck.

I agree, go with Wordpress. If you are a programmer or not it's the right choice.

Couple years ago I went through Scriptlance to have guy in Romania build me a truly gorgeous and impressive site for fifty bucks.

    Truly satisfying experience!

Of course who wants to spend the money nowadays? Besides let's keep all work USA! But when someone is stuck and I can't be of help, I send them over to scriptlance. Must say, the support I found there to be incredible. Just my 2c Good Luck!

I'm working on something tailor made for simple sites like that. It's still in beta but very powerful with CMS features and Mailchimp integration, all with no SQL. Right now I'm looking for people to test it before it goes on sale, PM me if you are interested.

Joe - I've started using Dreamweaver to design about 10 years ago, but now use Wordpress for just about everything because it's so easy to use and customize and it saves me so much time.

Most webhosts have a 1-click install option and the new default WP theme, 2010, is a great starting point for just about any kind of site and it's easy to customize with just a few simple steps.

Need help getting started? You'll find probably more info than you care to know in the wordpress codex, but I'd start with your webhost and odds are they'll have some training videos available. If not, just google "wordpress tutorials" or head to youtube and search on wordpress and you'll find all kinds of good things.

    Cheers,

    Steve

If hassle is out of your vocabulary, then Wordpress is for you, just choose from the wide-array of free and premium templates. But if you want a more flexible and personalized design, then work with the coding stuffs.

Well, it doesn't really matter what you'll use. A site's efficiency is not only based on the CMS used but how it's optimized and as always, content is always the king.

For simple sites, definitely WordPress and most hosting companies use a script that allows you to set it up with just a few clicks.
