I recently had a hard drive crash and had to have an image editing stand in for photoshop while rebuilding my PC and apps.

I was quickly able to find an online photo editor tool called "Pixlr" and I've been so impressed with it I wanted to share it with you.

Its a free app that runs in a web browser (no downloads required, but it does require flash which means no iPad/iPhone support, yet)

The Pixlr.com online editor is the closest thing to a copy of Photoshop you will find. And its free

I've been using it for creating header graphics for a few wordpress halloween themes I've just launched for my own software product and it works extremely well.

I like it so much, I've started including the layered .pxd files in my template downloads.

It can export jpg and png (the latter with full alpha transparency). It even has a clone tool ala Photoshop itself.

If you are familiar with Photoshop, you will be right at home with Pixlr. The interface, menus, tools and palettes are nearly identical. It even supports layers with independent opacity.

I've posted a review of pixlr on my site if you are interested in more details. I highly encourage you to try it out. Whether or not you have photoshop, Pixlr is fast, light and free.
