    if you got the bucks its photoshop or fireworks.

    However, GIMP (open source/free) is everything those two are and do very well rendering professional grade web graphics. Open source software is always my first choice when possible. GIMP also has a large community and and it's easy to find support within that community. Also just about anything you cannot figure out there is a solution to be found on youtube.

          Adobe Photoshop are the best software and helpful for web graphics. If you want to start in this domain. You'll have first to learn how to use it. But you can find easily some tutorials on the internet.
          I've started using photoshop now 3 years ago, and I'm really happy of what it can do. This is my opinion, you should start to learn it.

    Use Photoshop and Dreamweaver if you are serious about web design and development. They are the industry standard and with good reason.
