Hi all,

This forum was one of the highly recommended forums, so I thought I would try my luck and seek some feedback to my challenge at the moment.

Right now, I have been struggling to put a website together for the past 9 months or so. The two major factors being my lack of web design skills and limited budget.

I am hoping for a site like openrice.com / amazon.com a review site. Can anyone shed the light on whether his is possible using a CMS, like joomla, wordpress and dupral?

Please let me know if what I want is too ambitious for the CMS mentioned. And if I have been barking up the wrong tree, any suggestions will be truly appreciated.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Cheers

A quick search online and perhaps you can look into this one:

I have struggled with both Drupal and Joomla. If according to you, you have limited web design skills, then trying to mould those CMS into what you want will be daunting indeed. While Daryl's recommendation seems steep for a start, after some thought, I actually believe that is the best solution for you. To customize Drupal or Joomla is not cheap.

      Thanks for the replies guys.

The helpful replies are what make forums like these so great.

Daryl - I have never seen your suggested program before. It just might be what I am looking for since I have been getting the feeling that Joomla ain't the right fit.

Calvin - I should say my web skills are non-existent, and the student that volunteered to help out has limited skills ha. My thinking is pretty much what you said.

Has anyone had much experience with the program Daryl suggested?

      Cheers all

        Hi

From the web experience you mentioned you have, I would personnaly not even recommend you buy and use that software, because that is a proprietary CMS, that means it is a closed script that not much really know about and cost for maintainance could quickly go beyond joomla and drupal ones. At the cost of 350.00 that is just the cost of the script and it is still not installed nor even setup and customized, and you dont even know how to operate it either.

I'd suggest you get your review site built based on wordpress because it is open source, there exsist thousands of developers and power user that know much about it, and developemtn in this area have gone over the top way beyond drupal and joomla markets. There are also tons of tutorials online that will help you learn how to maintian it once it built and in place.

As a matter of fact I can build that for you for not much more than the cost of that script alone plus I would provide you suport and video tutorials for the continuation whether it is for you or anyone you would hire to maintain it for you thereafter.

PM me if interested tp know more.

        Best regards

        Andre Foisy

Give Joomla a try. I could set everything up for you to get you started so all you have to is log in from the front panel and add your reviews or what ever content you like. Depending on your budget, we can get this done for a low cost. pm or contact me if you need for info.

Joomla is also an excellent CMS, but imho the it is much less user friendly at first try, kind of mess in the backend. I use to build high end sites with Joomla and now use Wordpress exclusively.

Thanks for all the replies everyone

In the opinion of everyone here, is it possible to create openrice.com / (a slightly more interactive) amazon.com using the mentioned CMS? I get the impression that review sites can be made, but the CMS is restrictive for changes. I would like the site to be easily maintained and modified once it's done.

Thanks for all the web design offers. I am definitely going to outsource the project once I have done a bit more research. I'll get in contact with all the kind offers soon.

      Cheers
