Hi
I know I see alot of posts about ecommerce and word press but evryone seems to have a different opinion depending on what you are trying to do with the site.

I am looking to open a small store with wordpress accepting authoize.net as payment gateway through first data Merchant account accepting mastercard visa and amaerican express. I will have no more than 200 items in the store. I have no program skills at this time. Thanks in advance for your help

There are several solutions to choose from in combining Wordpress with eCommerce. Some are fully developed premium themes for eCommerce and others are plugins which will work with almost any current theme in Wordpress.

Of course there are advantages and disadvantages to each solution. You really should work with an experienced developer who has a background with not only Wordpress but with the various eCommerce plugins and themes.

Some are very simple to manage and maintain, others have quirks and bugs which may require work arounds. and Some do not work with your credit card processor of choice.

We would really need more information from you to help you find the right solution for your project.

    Good Luck!

    I would highly recommend either

    1) WordPress eStore Plugin - Tips and Tricks - scroll down on the right navigation area until your see the banner under "Tips and Tricks Hot Items" for Wordpress Estore.

    2) ECWID cart - Ecwid: E-Commerce Widgets

Both carts are easy to use and setup plus they also work with PayPal which is what I use for processing credit card payments.

You can use e-commerce plugin from WordPress Ecommerce a WordPress Shopping Cart Plugin. this will support all the payment gateways.
its very nice and lots of customization. i have used this for one client.

Thanks for your thoughts. Do you think somrthing like vulision or another store front type site would be better suited than wordpress?

Three are lots of free ecommerce software, it might be best to try one of those, simple installation and more professional/

I have both Volusion and Word Press eStore sites. If you have 200 products, I would recommend trying the trial site build on Volusion to get the hang of it. It is quite simple and you can learn more as you go. They have excellent video tutorials for everything. The service is the best, bar none.

I have just begun using Word Press themes and really have liked the eStore theme and plugins. For now, I am building multiple Word Press sites for the quick and economical turnaround. These sites are quite useful as "feeder" sites, giving me more exposure and links back to my main sites. I got eStore from Elegant Themes. For a small yearly fee, I have access to quite a few, customizable Word Press Themes.

Both options I mention integrate with Authorize.net. I tend to use Wordpress eStore plugin more because for $39.95 you get a multi site license. I don't like paying yearly fees and tend to avoid them as much as I can.

Plus when I'm creating a site for a client they pay for the shopping cart once and then if they want to do another website they can use the same license. A selling point I use in my initial client discussion.

PM if you want to know what I charge for my services.
