Looking for high quality free graphics

Looking for free sources of high quality graphics and stock photo's. Had limited success with Google images, so I am looking for other sources of images and graphics that I can use.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

    The first place I check for photos is stock.xchng - the leading free stock photography site

    They are free, though the site is now owned by iStockPhoto, so they show "premium" photos at the top of your search results.

    photoxpress.com
    has been a good source for me. They have both free and premium. You are limited in how many free images you can get per day (currently 10, I think) but the free selection is quite good. There are currently 633000 free images available. I think they have raster only, no vector.

    bigstockphoto.com is a good one but they're not free.

    As someone mentioned, sxc.hu, also try morguefile.com for photos (not necessarily high quality but they're free).

    Be very careful using photos/graphics from Google Images. Just because they're displayed doesn't mean they don't come with copyright. It also depends on how you use them ie commercially, etc.

    You can find a plethora of images here - everystockphoto - searching free photos but you'll have to read their Terms, and/or read the terms of each image. For example, images from Flickr might be ok to use for commercial purposes but you may need to leave some form of attribution (ie a link back to the photographer's flickr page).

    Creative Commons Search is another, click the flickr tab for example but follow the rules above and double/triple-check they can be used for your purposes.

    The reality is, unless a site is giving away images free (even sxc.hu has rules) then you'll either have to buy them or follow creative commons or similar rules. Same with graphics, always make sure you can use graphics for whatever purpose you intend.

      Very important advice. If you have any sort of business, you can't just take other people's images without permission. An image is automatically copyrighted upon creation, so it really becomes an issue of whether the creator would actually try to take you to court. In most cases, they won't, but if you want to make any money with your venture, you don't want to have any of these issues hanging over you. It seems harmless but I've seen a lot of really nasty cases.

      Anyway, these free stock photo sites suggested here are good places to start. Be sure to read and see if they can be used for commercial purposes.

    Remember to check the licensing on every stock photo, icon, graphic, etc. that you use. Because while it's free it could be against licensing agreement to use for commercial purposes, or to use it without providing credit to the original author. If you break the agreement and they find out there could be legal ramifications, so keep that in mind while you're hunting.

    If you're looking for quality icons I suggest using IconFinder, and sometimes if you click the links back to the original authors you'll find a goldmine.
