That's really interesting what you say about the SEO advantages of HTML. I had never thought that search engines would treat CMSs and PHP pages differently. Looks pretty cool.

Like all SEO, these two points are still theoretical as Google(and other search engines) does not publish how its search algorithm's work, but in this case the theory agrees exactly with the observations. Google itself has made statements in their patents to suggest that this is true.

But yes it is a little known fact, and actually a two-fold issue

-HTML URLs are crawled faster by search bots(such as Google's) because search bots recognize that php/asp/cgi sites are dynamic and thus can have an infinite number of pages, so they slow down the crawl speed, while with HTML they are sure of the page count and can operate at full capacity

-Bots seem to also detect what CMS you use and place you in a category, so for example, using Wordpress, you will be placed in a 'continually updated site' category which can give you an SEO boost initially but if you fail to keep updating on a regular basis you will be dropped very quickly - meaning if you ever get out of schedule or miss a regular article submission your ranking will suffer. Also bots seem to compare your rate of submission to other blogs meaning the bigger blogs with multiple article submissions a day usually have the advantage. The only way to really combat this is to submit articles at least a few times a week at exactly the same time each week, preferably once a day would be even better. If you are not able to update your blog, say you are on vacation, you should automate article submission somehow to avoid getting negative rankings for irregular content submissions.

Server speed also plays a big part in how you are crawled, giving simple HTML another advantage(pages typically have smaller file sizes compared to a CMS page).

A static website in WordPress typically will be indexed quickly and start off with great rankings for the first few weeks, but after this point crawlers expect fresh content and will penalize you for lack of submissions or irregular submissions. There also seems to be a point of no return after this and it seems to be almost impossible to recover a good site ranking.This is why making static sites(such as your minisite or lander pages) in HTML(or with a CMS recognized as static) is very important. HTML will always have the best SEO, which is why a popular SEO technique is to use Mod_Rewrite in your.htaccess files for a given CMS to improve crawl speed, this however, will not guard against a search engine identifying your CMS and categorizing you. Completely pure HTML is the absolute best to do if you are able to. Though sometimes the convenience of a CMS is just worth it, we ourselves prefer Drupal for larger projects.
