Help Please with Wordpress SEO question.

I was hoping there might be some wordpress buffs out there that could help me.

I am using Frank Haywood's method of using a HTML page as the the front page of a wordpress blog by loading it into the wordpress content and then opening a post and choosing it as a template. I then refer to the post in the "read" section of the wordpress dashboard making it the front page.

My question is (I am using an seo plug-in) does Google read the actual html page for its information (the template) or does it read any text that is put in the actual post (which a normal visitor will not see)?

Any ideas appreciated.

John

    Sounds way too complicated..!!

If you set your WP blog up normally and install the All-in-one-SEO plugin (or Platinum SEO) that's all you need to do.

And you can drop any SEO plugins if you're using Thesis or one of the other premium frameworks.

Just write good content (well optimised) - no need for tricks on WordPress.

    Cheers,

    Martin.

I agree with Martin. Wordpress was setup so that it's very easy to have a static front page.

In my opinion you should just stick with that

Hi John, looks like we have something in common with Peace! Coming to your question, two things:

    1. Keep it simple... using WP means reducing dependence on html and using widgets instead (every template has them - even for the home page)

    2. Search engines will read the html source ( ^U ) which contains all the stuff you can hide from 'normal visitors' but it is recommended not to hide keywords in the same color as the background or frames/other means. This can backfire and google may sandbox such sites.

Not sure why you would want to complicate the FANTASTIC simplicity that is WordPress by trying to install a html page through it?

I would stick with WP and make the Home page static and then that's the end of the worries and complications.

    Thanks for the advice guys.
The three main reasons for using this method

    (1) Using a salespage that is given with a plr product. You just turn the salespage into a post "template". Create a post, choose it as the template, All done.

    (2) you can quickly convert any html/php website to a wordpress blog

    (3) You can use free brochure websites but still have all the power of wordpress behind it.

For example you can have a "html" page linking to three other pages as the front of your wordpress website with no links on those pages back into the wordpress blog, just the other pages of the brochure. You can then fill the wordpress blog with articles on a drip feed knowing your visitors will not be distracted by these and because your first page is still a "post" page, it benefits from as the seo love of the seo plug-ins. Even though vistors only use the front pages, Google takes note that you are constantly adding to your blog, so it works well with caffine. (If one of the article pages in the blog, makes a high page in the rankings, I use a re-direct plug-in to send visitors using the link to the front page).

I have 5 websites using this method ranking on page one of Google.

I will try and explain the question again. I have a wordpress post using a template that is a HTML/PHP page. Does the google search bots gather their information from the "blank" wordpress post page or the information on the template/html page connected to it?

Overcomplicating the whole thing. Just let Wordpress do what it does best, manage your content and everything that entails. Like previous warriors have said, get an SEO plugin and let it and wordpress go to work.

What are you planning on getting out of it?

The Google bots gather their information based on the content of the page, and the authority of other links to and from it, it has nothing to do with the code or the template.

Well, I have tried using a different title for the "post", to the title tag on the html page "template" and Google is showing the the Title tag from the Html page. So that was simple.

I then altered the description tag on the html page, but Google continues to show the description from the "post" instead (after 1 week). Odd.

So, what I really want to know is Google reading the text from the post or the html page/ template. I could experiment by changing the text, but since the websites are on page 1 of Google , I did not really want to risk losing ranking.

Obviously a SEO plug-in will optimise the "post" text but is that where Google is looking. I was hoping that someone here might be familar with inner workings of Google/wordpress.

Thank for all your advice, though it appreciated
    John

P.S. Ok, as I mentioned at the beginning, I am using an SEO plug-in. Where does the SEO plug-in get its information from. The Text in the "Post" or the text on the "Template"

As far as my own SEO plugin is concerned it gets the information from the text I put in when I write the post. for example, I add a title and a description. The plugin also has settings where you can tell it to use your tags and categories for keywords on that page.

So the answer would be your SEO information comes from how you set up the plugin to work and the extra items you specify when you write the post.

it's always better to post well SE optimised articles on the front page with a link to your affiliate page using keyword in your anchor text. I've found out that using footer link to link all posts together will increase your ranking and get all your pages index faster.
