What's new in Joomla 1.6 - Joomla! Documentation

# New Access Control System - Allows site administrators control over who can view and manage content.
# Unlimited Depth Organizational Model - Gives site administrators and content creators user-defined category levels that allow for the creation of a category tree with as many or as few levels for organizing articles and other content as needed.
# One-Click Extension Updates - Allows users to keep sites secure and controlled by simplifying the process of updating extensions.
I'm loving it allready... :p

Let's take some time to study Joomla! 1.6 Beta 1 using Andrew's document so that we might better appreciate the work accomplished and consider about how we might use it as developers and site builders. It allows developers to build inventory control systems, data reporting tools, application bridges, integrated eCommerce applications, reservation tools, communication systems and other applications very easily.

Front-end User Access (component) does a fantastic job of handling access levels so I'm not excited about that.

The idea of 1-click updates is long overdue and I think that' will be a huge improvement to every administrator.

I think it'll be at least 18 months though before 1.6 has enough compatible components and bug fixes before it's really beneficial though.

Yes, Joomla is out with version 1.7
And one can easily update both the core and plugins/extentions.
Now that's worth using Joomla for.
