Issue connecting Dreamweaver to Hostgator...root directory?

I am creating my website in Dreamweaver and I am setting up my site using hostgator.....everything is fine as long as I don't put ANYTHING in the root directory under the server setup tab...if I put anything in that field I always get an error message....what is the root directory supposed to be? Here is a screenshot of what I mean...thanks

    I dont use dreamweaver, but what happens if you dont put anything in the root option?
    Ftp should connect you to root, I guess this option is there if you want to access some specific folder on server always, and to dw connect you always there.
