Hey guys,

I have 3.0.1 - I am building a site now. I am using the twenty ten theme.

How do I set up links/pages in the Sidebar, but, only put links to certain pages under each category? Say I have 6 pages, but, want the first category to only have a link to page 1-2, the 2nd 3-4, and so on.

Also, how do I keep the links from showing up at the top of the page, under the header?

Jeremy

Okay, in your dashboard, on the left handside there is "appearance" click on that, then click on widgets.

Then you will see a bunch of small boxes with labels. In the right margin there is "Primary Widget Area" You can drag the box that says 'Pages" and then your pages will be listed on the right side.

Then you can drag the box over that says "Category's" and then you can drag the box over that says "Links" Your links are like your blogroll. Then you would have to go to dashboard and clear the blogroll links and then add the links that you want to link out to. Or you can put links to your internal pages. (I have not done that)

Your "Recent Posts" widgets will create a clickable link to your posts
Your "Pages" widget will create a clickable link to your pages

I don't use the TwentyTen theme, it's set up a little different than other themes. But if you drag the widgets you want to use over to that one section in the right hand side, it will show up in your sidebar.

One more thing...if you don't want the page links up at the top under the header, then you can add a text box and add a little bio about yourself, or put a skyscraper adsense block, or a CPA ad.

    I hope this helps.

Assuming your sidebar is widgetized, use the pages widget to create links to your posts.

Sounds like you need to jump into the actual scripting.

Ok - I figured that out. Here is my latest question.

How do I delete the links that are below the header?

Oh I see, you want to eliminate the menu bar.

    I have three suggestions...

    1. would be to go to find a coder that could hack the source code to eliminate the menu bar. The only problem is, sometimes you can break the theme when you play around with the code. Elance, rentacoder, or Odesk.com

    2. Get a custom wordpress theme done for you, and that isn't too hard to find. I make all my own themes in Artisteer. I know there are people on the forum that could do a custom theme for you.

    3. Find a free theme at Free Wordpress Themes | Best Wordpress Themes | Free Wordpress Templates | Best Wordpress Templates they have them categorized by topic. My suggestion is to look for a theme that doesn't have the menu bar under the header and is laid out in the format and style that you're looking for. And the best part is, they're free!

    I hope this helps.

Install a wordperss plugin called Exclude Pages. This plugin will help you include/exclude a page on the navigation bar. Here's how it work, edit and existing page and at the middle-right corner below the publish button there's a small box (yo can check or unchecked the box).

This is the tricky part, the page(s)that you have excluded on the navigation bar will not appear on a PAGE WIDGET. So how do you put your pages on the sidebar? Simple, create a new link category and name it pages. Then one by one add the pages url as a link.

    Hope it help.

as Maynard mentioned, either install that plugin or read through this page: Function Reference/wp list pages « WordPress Codex (and you will see commands like, include and exclude to exclude certain pages or just to include certain pages).

    Hope it helps.

With WP 3.0+, just use the custom menu system built in. No need for plugins to alter the navigational menu bar.

However if you want to remove the entire section, and not just certain pages, you can remove the menu code from the theme template.

    2 questions.

#1. What would be the best way for me to outsource this project?
#2. What would be a good way for me to learn Wordpress and web design?
