I was hoping some of the experts would be able to let us noobs know what they find is the best resolution for their squeeze and sales pages?

I've read that most people are no longer using 800 x 600 (which historically has been standard), rather 1024 x 768.

What resolution are the 'pros' using for their pages? How much of it depends on the target audience? (i.e. higher resolution for gamer target market vs. standard resolution for biz op...)

Thanks in advance for your help!!

Part of what you need to look at is the location of your target market. If you are in North America and that is your target, then 1024 X 768 is pretty standard stuff and many people have larger monitors than that.

But you also want to think about how they are viewing it. More and more people are running around with mobile devices and surfing or view the net on them. For this, you want to make sure you make you site smaller and stay away from anything that has Flash in it. Right now in Web Dev, Flash is dead..... BUT.... I think that as the mobile market matures, you will see it coming back again as it has a lot of power. Once Steve Jobs gets over his ego and decides to support in on the IWhatevers, then Flash we be big in the mobile market.

If Jobs doesn't do it the competition will. We are already seeing phones that are as good if not better that the I's, so it is just a matter of time.

If you go for the 1024 width, make sure to leave some room around the edges of your content. Meaning design you page and graphics to be like 1000 or even better 970 px wide. This makes sure you don't end up with the dreaded side to side scroll bar at the bottom of the browser.

    Have a Great Day!

Apple's decision to not include Flash on their platform is because of poor performance, not Steve Jobs' ego. The reality is that if there was an easy or known way of making Flash use less system resources it would've been implemented long before the first smartphones hit the market. Besides, the golden rule of modern web design is to never use Flash or tables unless you absolutely have to, so I wouldn't exactly count on a comeback for Flash in the mobile space unless the culture of professional developers and designers changes.

Back on topic, 90% of users can't see more than 500px without scrolling thanks to browser UIs(nav bar, tool bars, etc.). Like wise 90% of your viewers can't see anything wider than 960px without scrolling.
