I am using the free word press but have it hosted on my own computer. I have uploaded a .pdf file which can be downloaded by people after they sign into my opt-in list. However, I cannot get it to work. Need some help here please .

You can get shared hosting on a site like dreamhost.com for extremely cheap, not to mention hundreds of coupon codes flying around out there that makes it even cheaper. Also, like Jonathan said, we would need a little more background in order to give you a good answer. | |

I suspect that Mary means its her own hosting as opposed to using the Wordpress.com arrangement.

Ah, that's definitely the way to go. From what it sounds like, you're going to have to create a hidden post (or page), which I believe you are going to need a plugin for. This way nobody who comes to the site will see it without having the direct link. You can also create a post with a password on it, which will allow people to see a post is created, but they will need a password you define to access it. This is a little less glamorous, but you don't need anything other than the standard Wordpress to do it. |

Simple solution just tried write the post with link for the pdf. Now password protect it there is a box towards the bottom on the write page for this. Now when someone joins your list you send them an e-mail with a link to this page and the password. They will only be able to read this page once the password has been entered. hope this helps.. |

Yes, I think what Jonathan has said about the hosting is correct, though I am lost, as my partner originally set it up and told me it was fine.
