Converting an existing site to Wordpress

My current site was built for by me a web design firm. Most of it is proprietary, and it's very hard for me to change many elements. Is it possible and practical to duplicate this site in Wordpress? I don't want to lose any Google ranking, links, url's, etc. If it can be done, what pitfalls should I be aware of? www.nursingresumepros.com

nope, in fact with Wordpress you gain the ability to try 1000 different cool looks.

I would make sure you get your content, but don't worry about the style.

I wrote an article recently on moving a site to WordPress, and cover some things to think about. It's here:

Migrate an HTML Website to WordPress | Create an Awesome Home Business

Although that article specifically refers to HTML sites, the same principles apply if you're moving from a different platform.

    Cheers,

    Martin.

Is it a relatively simple process to convert the site without losing any of my history? Will all my intrasite links migrate, and the content, and backlinks?

I checked a bunch of the page URL's on your site and from what I have seen it can all be duplicated 100%.

The only thing that would change is the images posted, like the bag, good resume example images. But you could write those paths in by hand if it was that important. They were not SEO optimized images anyway.

So you should be able to duplicate it all 100%.

Can anyone reccomend someone to do this? I'd prefer an established firm that will be there for me at all times. And I'd like whoever I work with to build additional sites too.

there are a ton of awesome warriors here who do stuff like this, and possibly better than WordPress.

Check out this guy: Minisite Design Studio

      Untitled Document

if you are going to pay someone for custom sites, you can do better than hiring a wp monkey, unless you have an extremely limited budget

I'm not looking for cheap, I'm looking for the best. This will be a long-term ongoing relationship. I have many more sites I want built, but first I want this one perfect. Anyone who can do this for me will get all my business.

flipping this into a wp theme will not be that hard.
one can reskin a 2010 theme and send this bad boy on its way.
proper canonical will resolve any worries about broken links.
a good link scan prior of your current site would be in order. know who is linking to what before you do the swap.
a word to the wise though, it might be better to go static in the front pages ( the ones you have already ) and then flip the blog into a subfolder.
it helps just in case you have a database issue down the road, this way in case you have an issue it only crashes half your site.
if you can not find a warrior in here that can handle it, hit me up. I have a few samples you can check out.

It's definately worth doing. Once done you really should consider pointing all the old links to the new locations with a 301 redirect, a big .htaccess file should do the job.

Also, if for a client, ask them to look over the premium themes and ask them to pic one - saves so much time for you as you don't need to hack them as much to get exactly how the client wants them.

As many people have said the conversion to Wordpress isn't difficult and could be done by any number of people rather quickly. However since you mentioned that your not looking for the cheapest I would highly consider having someone with some design and conversion optimization experience look at the site.

Without taking much time there are several opportunities to improve the site. With access to the analytics, some deeper research, and some split testing a lot more could be found. I'm sure there are several good people here that could perform these services and we would be willing to work with you as well.

Wordpress can do everything without spoiling a link of yours. All the links will be as it is and infact it can be made with the same look and style.

you dont have to many pages and most of your pages dont have ranking, so just convert the site to wordpress and ranking wise you will be ok, look wise you will have to learn a little css and photoshop to get your site to look like e.g a theme you find for wordpress,,,,
