How To Create A Wordpress Theme From Scratch Tutorial.

Hi,

I'm thinking about creating a video on how to create a Wordpress Theme.

I'm not talking about using a 3rd party program like Devine to create it or buy this other product and upload a file to create it. I'm talking about step by step instructions.

What is something good to add?

I can only come up with 2 topics:
  • How to convert a PSD to Wordpress Theme
  • How to convert an HTML Template to Wordpress Theme.


Is there some other important topics I should cover?

          It is the right idea and I are very interested.
          I think this is the biggest disadvantage of Wordpress (heavy modification template that does not look like a blog).
          And the example you provided was excellent, how wordpress theme could work.

    Wow. You are biting off quite a bit here.
    I'm sure if you go over to the wordpress.org site and look up the topic, you'll find a number of things to add....for example...how about
    Child themes?
    Layouts?
    Templates?

    Before you go to the trouble -- make sure there's a market that's willing to pay for your effort!

      Thanks. I'm just trying to make something useful. It takes a lot of scouring on the wordpress.org site to find what you need. If no one actually showed me I'd still scratch my head.

    Hey all,

    This is exactly one of my projects that I'm working on. To be honest, I cruised the Internet for days looking for info and came up more confused then before i started. I eventually turned to lynda.com and started to learn from there. I did one of their courses that takes a site from photoshop concept to css layout to wordpress theme.

    Definitely not for the light hearted, but boy did I ever learn a ton. Also made me realize that I've got to take one step back and learn css much better, so that's what I'm up to now. Learning CSS properly.

    Next, I'll go over the first course again and build a new site template to my needs. Very cumbersome, but very worthwhile.

    Now I can honestly say that I can see why companies charge in excess of $1,000s to setup a fully customized wordpress site complete with dedicated theme!
