Hello.....

I'm trying to consolidate my plug-ins (Base Set-up) for a few Blog Sites I plan to activate shortly. These sites will be selling various items that add an additional revenue stream to my portfolio.....It's been a while since I've done anything with my base plug-ins and I got to thinking maybe I'm a little behind the times....any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance for any suggestions........Jack

Here's a list of the Plug-Ins I currently consider my "Base Set-up"

"Askimet" (Spam), "All in One Adsense and YPN", Mike Torberts' "All in One SEO Pack" (SEO), "Cross-linker" (URL Linking), "Exclude Pages from Navigation" (Allows turning pages off and on in Title bar menu), "Google Analyticator (Google Stats)", "Photo Dropper (Inserts pictures)""RSS Footer (Add remarks for RSS feed)", "SEO Slugs (Contract posts slugs)", "What Would Seth Godin Do (Changes greetings for return surfers)", "WordPress EZ Backup", "WordPress Mobile Pack", "WordPress Reports ( Works with Google reports)" and last but not least "YouTube Dropper (Inserts Video)".

    AddToAny - social bookmarking script
Code Markup - So it plays nice with code blocks
    Gravatar -
WP About Author - So you can plug yourself at the bottom of your posts.

      Antispam Bee
      Autoptimize
      Wordpress SEO (from yoast)

Anyone else out there?....c'mon....I know there's a ton of WordPress users out there that are "Big Time" with the plug-ins and how they help the overall effectiveness of a site.

Any plug-ins You find useful for SEO or any other administrative functionality along with a brief descriptor would be greatly appreciated.

This would be a good post for newbies to get an education on WordPress as well. The more the merrier.

Thanks one and all in advance..........

        Jack

PS....maybe we'll end up with a "Warrior Forum Standard Suggested Build"...Woo Hoo!

These are the WP plugins I use personally:

Ad Injection: Inserts any advert into your blog. Options to exclude by post age, visitor IP, and visitor referrer. Works with WP Super Cache.

GTranslate: Get translations with a single click between 58 languages (more than 98% of internet users) on your website!

Share and Follow: A simple plugin to manage sharing and following.

Fast Secure Contact Form: Fast Secure Contact Form for WordPress. The contact form lets your visitors send you a quick E-mail message. Blocks all common spammer tactics. Spam is no longer a problem. Includes a CAPTCHA and Akismet support. Does not require JavaScript.

Easy Sign Up:E-mail Sign Up and Redirection to a url. Possible use is collecting email address for a newsletter, or leads for your sales force before redirecting to a brochure.

Don't install plugins for the sake of plugins...

There is no "must-have" plugin - except anti-spam protection. Maybe.

The rest always should depend on the specifics of your site/blog. And unless we know what kind of site the OP is building we cannot honestly suggest any plugin.

    Hey,

From my experience, consider adding "Google XML Sitemaps"

Though plugins can make everything easier, try not to use too much plugins, because it will cause your blog loading slower - fast speed blogs are giving benefit, both for your readers and SEO.

Only use very important plugins that are really needed in your niche..

Ping optimizer is a must have plugin, to avoid self pinging in wordpress in my opinion.

    SEO plugins:

All in One SEO, alternative, Platinum SEO.
    Google sitemap generator
    Breadcrumbs plugin
    Related Post Plugin, YARPP.
    Cbnet optimizer, alternative, maxblogpress
w3 total cache, alternative, wp super cache

    Security plugins:

    wp security scan
    login lock down
    login logger

    Contact page plugin:

Fast and Secure Contact Form, alternative, contact form 7

    AdSense/advertisement:

    Easy privacy policy plugin.
    YPN adsense plugin
    wp125 plugin
    datafeedr randomize ads plugin

    Comment:

    Akismet
ReplyMe plugin, alternative, subscribe to comment
    Growmap plugin

    Backup automatically
wp db backup, alternative, wp-db backup manager.

Best blog plugins source and tutorials.

Glad you asked. This is a question I ask every blogger I meet. It's facinating to see the unique answers.

My best suggestion would be for WORDPRESS SEO . Yoast has done an outstanding job of combining a number of necessary plugins all into one neat package. In setting up a new blog recently, it saved me a lot of time in getting the SEO and more setup. Amazed how many plugins this one replaces.

For membership sites, I use Wishlist Member.
For ecommerce, I use wp ecommerce.

I agree with Istvan that the type of site you are designing impacts your choice of plugins.

Looking forward to your final list
