I can do a little wordpress but I know it won't be that great and will take me probablly over a week to get it decent. I need a wordpress site made with a static page and blog post area. I want them to customize a free theme and design a nice header w/ graphics and background. I am still new to im and outsourcing. I know kind of how I want it to look but don't really want to take the time to get it there. Does anyone else successfully outsource design? What should I expect?

Cliche as hell, but "Time is money", so I would go with outsourcing...

Outsource if you have the money. Also, if you were to do it yourself would the new found knowledge help you down the road? Myself, I tend to invest the time if I believe it will be a beneficial skill to hold in the future.

I suggest you learn to do it yourself. With the many
awesome themes out there, it's now a breeze to do.

And by learning to do it yourself, it shows you are
serious about IM and making money online. It's not
everything that you should outsource at least not in
    the beginning.

I would suggest for you to do it yourself, after all learning how to get around wordpress isn't complicated at all once you understand the basic functions and how widgets work etc.

With new premium themes and stuff coming out every day, knowing your way around wordpress is something I believe comes in very handy most of the time.

Outsource graphic design and things that actually take legit skill to do. Unless you have a nice chunk of capital of course. Then you can outsource it all, although I would still recommend to learn your way around basic wordpress setups.

    what is your priority?

if it is "time", go outsource ..

if it is "your-knowledge", go learn

      I agree.

It's always better to learn but if you're running out of time. Find the right staff who will be working for you.

Outsource. If you don't have a good person, let me know and I'll recommend a few to you.

Do it yourself! If you learn to do it yourself it gives you more freedom in the future. It took me 3 months to learn html and css and get my site going, but now I am confident that I can fix any problem that I may run into.

A lot to learn if you have the time.
    Anyone can create a blog.
Getting it to the top of Google and gaining free organic traffic takes time.
If your strengths lay elsewhere and you can monetize them then outsourcing your blog creation would be the best option.
I can strip down the engine in my car however there are people better then me at this who are professional.

Based on the title of this thread, the right answer for you would be to outsource it at this point. If you try to develop with a "this is going to take forever" attitude you will quit. It will take forever, you'll become discouraged @ the time/learning curve/frustration that comes with learning something new...not because you aren't getting anywhere, you'll just feel you're not getting there quick enough...eventually resulting in more time/money invested than with a developer. Difference would be, with a developer, you'd have something to show for it. Once you have a broader timeframe to work with, "take forever doing it" yourself Good luck!

I think the first few you should do yourself. If you outsource, you will never be able to pick it up until you starting doing it on your own. Have patience, keep at it and you will get better and faster over time. The knowledge from it will benefit you MUCH more than just outsourcing it.

If you can afford it, outsource. The longer you take to setup your site, the longer it takes for it to make money. That is even if it will make money. Success in IM is directly proportionate to the size of action you take.

When you are swimming in coins later, then take your time learning to do the menial tasks, if you are interested.

I myself hates content writing, so that is the thing I outsource. The other stuff, I can handle at the moment. Of course, those will get outsourced later when my business gets bigger.

Good post.. I'm in the ecaxt same situation.. How much will it cost to outsource (depending on design of course)?

I'm looking for something similar to what he mentions above.. A nice looking WP design for a blog - suitable for Adsense, banner ads and blogposts with images..

For modifying the theme to be "custom" - go for outsourcing; you are lucky there are a lof of very cheap offers in this forum.

If you are in 'learning mood' then spend the time not on tweaking the theme but to learn how WP works, so you won't end up asking stupid questions here or in the WP forum (as so many do!!!). Questions that tell everybody they never bothered to look around inside the tool they are using.

The trick in successfully using WP for your business is not in the custom theme or fancy graphics! It is in your understanding of how WP works, turning all the features it has in your advantage.

The visual part is not that important as some people would like us to believe. It is way more important on long run the architecture of your site, the hierarchy of the data/content, its inner structure and stuff like that.

Learning how to use WordPress was a great thing for me. All that trial and error paid off in the end. I can put up WP sites in the blink of an eye now. I think it will pay off for you in the long run to do it yourself.

Depends on how much time you have leaning how to do it yourself, consontrate on building and running your businness for now and outsource it, Learn how to use and do it at your own pace.
