Curious if any wordpress ninja's can tell me if it would be a good choice to build a site like this.

My other option is Joomla.

I plan on using 1shoppingcart and do not want to use a plug in for wordpress. I already experimented with all of them and none of them really gave me what I needed without custom code, slowing down the site etc..

So I want to create the site/pages in wordpress and then just paste the html add to cart buttons.

the site I am trying to make is similar to is gardeners supply company. I cant post links otherwise I would.

What would be the best choice to recreate this?

Like... what? Is it just me or is there no link listed? lol.. Umm but usually Wordpress and Joomla are pretty good at creating most styles of website if you are willing to work hard enough. It has been a while since I've touched a CMS-- but the last time I checked Wordpress was a little more "skin-friendly" than Joomla.

If you look closely at many of the Joomla templates on the internet in comparison to Wordpress, the skins tend to be a lot more limited with Wordpress (and have similar column style layouts).

If your shopping cart is third party, then you can always take coding methods to bridge the two together (using the same user database, aligning the cookies to assure that one login gives you access to both Wordpress and the shopping cart software).

One of my clients uses Jamroom (a music CMS) and ZenCart. During development, I had to make sure that Zencart acted as a slave to Jamroom's user database. You may want to look into the user community of your shopping cart to see how others have used it with third party software, potential security vulnerabilities, etc.

The problem with mixing software together is that you pose threats to your entire server. Be careful.

    I hope this helps!

I cant post links because I dont have 15 posts yet.

The website is called - gardeners supply company

If you google, it will come right up.

Well correct me if I am wrong..but 1shopping cart is a hosted cart. So everything on there will not be on my server. Are you saying just if I try and combine the databases? To avoid users having two login accounts?

Well when I looked into their source code is looks like a company called demand ware developed the site. Unless I missed the yahoo tags?

Seems like a good company if you had the money. But I am just starting out and like I mentioned just want to use a CMS and create the html then use a hosted cart with buy buttons

I know wordpress pros can do anything. I have seen some amazing sites. But I think after looking into things more I am going to shift from wordpress to Joomla.

Joomla seems to be better for an Ecommerce site. If you can afford the Yahoo price then go for it. I think it includes a free Yahoo directory listing (not sure though) which can help with rankings

Have you been considered the other alternatives such as Magento, Zen Cart, or Oscommerce? Magento is what I would recommend in terms of features and performance, however, if you find Magento to be complicated, you can switch to Oscommerce or Zen Cart in future.
