I have a modified twenty ten theme on one of my sites and I would like to copy it to my PC so I can test it on another one of my sites.

Could someone tell me the proper steps to accomplish that?

Thanks
Dan

    Hi Dan,

You just need to download the theme folder from your WP theme directory into your hard disk using using FTP or file manager that your web host provides. Then, upload it to your other site's WP theme directory...

    Theme directory = wp-content>themes

    Theme folder = twentyten

      Thanks for your help.

Can I change the name of the theme file after I download it? That would make it easier to keep track of. I just wonder if any of the internal code would stop working if I did that.

And can I zip it and upload with wordpress like I would a normal theme?

Feel free to change the folders name, and the themes name itself.

Last time I checked I BELIEVE (don't hold me to it) but the official themes "name" is inside the style.css file. You can edit it freely, it won't break anything.

I've worked with WordPress for the past five or six years.

Yup, changing the name of the theme folder will not change the official theme's name. I suggest, if you want to keep both original and modified Twenty Ten themes in the same theme directory, you should edit the name inside the style.css file... so you know which one to select without having to preview them every time.

I'm not sure but I have a feeling it will still work if you change the name of the theme file... hehe...

As for the zipping, yes, you can do that...
