Quick WP question (hiding pages sorta)

I am creating a site and I'd like the home page to show the "about" page, (which I have set), but I DON'T want to include the "about" page in the menu.

Anyone know how I can quickly/easily do this?

I was looking at the custom menus, but it wasn't working for me. (I usually hardcode html but figured this might be faster for what I need)

Suggestions?

    Custom menus work only IF the theme has been prepared for it (i.e. properly coded).

    There are plugins that exclude Pages from the listing. Or, do it manually: see in the Codex the parameters for wp_list_pages
