Was spending way to much time tonight (as usual) looking for the perfect icons for a design. In my search I ran across a few useful lists, some overlap between them:

make sure you read the terms for the individual sets, as some of them are not free for commercial use or require a link back to the designer.

I believe most of them are PNG's but I did see some ICO and PSD files in there. In my case I was looking for PNG's so it makes sense.
