hello all members!
I am new web designer but have not more experience to build a new website.
I would like to build a basic e-commerce website, able to have pics, video, post blogs, take payments, and a mailing list subscriber. I have no experience with code. Someone recommended Xsitepro, has anyone used this product or can recommend something better? Please don't hesitate to share,

Well, you can use Dreamweaver or Microsoft Frontpage for building a website. If you don't know the html programming then try the drag and drop website builder. If you like to build ecommerce website, you can find any resources there to install on your website. Thus, if you know how to setup the ecommerce directly on your website and no need to use FTP Software go to your hosting cpanel then Fantastico >> Install eCommerce.

XsitePro is a great WYSIWYG website builder with a lot of functionality. I use it for a number of my static websites. If you search the name on this forum you should get a lot of good reviews.

WordPress is great for static sites too, if you just use pages. You can completely eliminate the blogging features (don't use posts) and set the home page to a static page. Plus, with WordPress, there are a host of plugins that can add the functionality you are looking for.

I use XsitePro for my HTML sites (which I run on my Mac with an emulator) and Wordpress for everything else. If I need to create some fast HTML code then I use Kompozer for Mac which is a free program.

If you want to learn how to build e-commerce websites form the ground up you will have to swot up on HTML and CSS for the designing of the website and learn PHP and MySQL for the backend of the website. I highly recommend you learn HTML first as you will be way out of your depth trying to learn everything at once. After HTML learn CSS then go onto the server side stuff (PHP & MySQL).

As for a tool to write your code, Google and install Notepad++.

If you want to go for free, just go with Word Press.

Then graduate up to XSitePro. Have been using
XSitePro for over 2 years. Great. There is a learning
curve with using it, but will be worth you taking
      the time.

Word Press, small learning curve. One day studing
it you will know how to do most anything you want to
      do with it.

Well, You should try to learn ASP.Net first. This is very famous and also easy to understandable program. This program will fulfil all your requirements. I have learnt this program so that's I suggest you this program with my own experience.

No, no, gawd no! With all due respect to those two guys I quoted above, if you just want to build a nice site NOW then you will go insane trying to learn all that complicated stuff...and worse...will probably never get started. 99.9% of us internet marketers don't learn that stuff...and don't need to.

You can start today by doing what this guys quote below (All Night Cafe) says to do. There are TONS of free tutorials out there on how to build self-hosted Wordpress sites and XSP sites too. If you choose an excellent web host like Hostgator then they will be happy to walk you through over the phone 24/7 on exactly how to install Fantastico and Wordpress.

If you want to build this yourself you are going to need software like dreamweaver and some graphic editing software maybe photoshop.

but you dont really need to do all that as you can find loads of websites online where you can sign up and they create the site for you. I have used sites such as finest shops or shopify in the past. An advantasgeof this is you will benefit from their support should you get stuck.

I think coffee cup html editor works great. And it's only 49 bucks. Well worth the price for all the features.

I've used Frontpage, coffee cup a little and just notepad with pure HTML code. For a storefront thought, I think the easiest way to set up a storefront is to use something pre-made already (like osCommerce) and just install the modules that you need tor payments, etc. To install the modules you do need to know some basic HTML or coding though.

It seems to me that the original post was by someone who wants to be or is a web designer... not so much into marketing (at this point anyway - but I think we all need to market ourselves in one form or another so as to get more of the work we love doing.... in this case designing websites).

Having designed many sites myself I would recommend the Adobe Suite of software and anything you can't do there you add with plug-ins etc.

Easy way of all though is to learn to use the Wordpress system. Many webpage designers now become experts in using Wordpress themes, plug-ins, widgets.... etc etc and sell their expertise to people who just don't want to take the time to learn it all themselves. I've seen some designers on this forum advertising themselves in this way.

      All the best.

I can advise you to use Artisteer 2.5! It is $49 bucks, but the program is great. With one click on a button you can auto-generate your custom Blog Templates. No coding is needed and the possibilities are endless.

It is very user-friendly and I've been using it for some time now. You can create graphically stunning looking site within less then an hour, if you know how to work.

Then in addition, you could use WordPress Plugins to install a Web Shop or so..

XSitePro is one of my favorite bits of software, I've used it almost every day since I started out in marketing, and it really saves you a lot of time when you're a beginner, and just getting to grips with SEO and SEM.

Looking forward to building some new sites with new features like more RSS feeds and greater social network connectivity.

I have been using Dreamweaver for many years and it is the easiest to get a hang of. It's not free but well worth it.

Whatever tool you use, there will be a learning curve of a few months with what you intend to create but I guess you expect that already.

Wordpress is great because it is easy to get started with and you can find plugins that allow you to do almost anything you want. Lots of people use wordpress, so help is easy to find. If you like programing and get good you can build themes, plugins and complete sites to sell.

Unless you are serious about putting in:
    1) Time
    2) Effort
    3) Late Nights
    4) $$$ (for software, etc.)

I would not pursue learning development solely to get a website up. However if you are genuinely interested in learning, by all means, do so and make use of the vast amount of tutorials on the web. My recommendation would be WordPress if you decide to pursue building it yourself.

But if it's to get a site up, you'll save time and money just hiring a pro to do it for you.

There are many choices for you. However, you should use dreamviewer and photoshop to buld a new website. Dreamviewer is very good.

You should start learning html and css that would be the best option. Instead of using programs like dreamweaver I believe in hand writing codes which gives you more flexibility in future when you gonna try to integrate them with other stuffs

I'm sorry but all this advice is garbage.

IF YOU ARE / WANT TO BE A REAL DESIGNER,

Learn CS5, and master your photoshop/dreamweaver/flash/notepad skills. Everything else is not professional and you will make sites that will be laughed at.

      I would second that..

Be a master in the basics first...HTML..CSS and Photoshop..then venture out to something bigger...like Wordpress ..Joomla..etc..

Depends what you want to do....
Build a site that is yours to sell products/services - Wordpress, for quickness (no coding knowledge needed).
Build a site for clients (i.e. be a web designer) - Dreamweaver/Photoshop for professionalism.
    I do both.
I tried XSitePro after using Dreamweaver and couldn't get my head round it. Dreamweaver helps you to learn html code as you go along - worth the effort!

    Hi,
You can use content management system for developing your website.Joomla is easy to install and can be easily setup with your mouse. You don’t want to know about the usage of tools and their functions. There is no need of scripts on the site when using joomla for developing the sites. Joomla! Is easy and fast to operate and implement. For community purposes, you can use community builder component.

If you need to design a site and have no design skills or money to afford a designer then using a Content Management System (CMS) like Joomla is your answer, there are extensions for all the major open source ecommerce solutions (Zen, Virtuemart etc) and the best thing is that they are all FREE.

As someone has already mentioned before learning to build websites from scratch is a long and involved process. If your goal is to get a website up and running then I would definitely go with Wordpress. This will get you a functioning website that you can customize to your liking. Even if you know all about building websites it is still very time consuming to build them from scratch.

Of course you will still need to learn HTML and CSS and for this I would get Microsoft's Visual Studio Express edition. It's FREE and it's the best editing software you will find at any price.

I can heartily recommend XSitePro, especially if you are new to the world of website design. It has a built-in WYSIWYG web editor, which certainly made a difference for me when I was starting out with web design.

Plenty of new features to look forward to, including updated social media plug-ins and some great professional templates to get you off the ground running. Their customer service has always been really supportive too. Do check it out, I can promise you won't be disappointed.
