Mac or PC

Hi and welcome. I've used both, however I currently use a MBP i7 w/high-res anti-glare screen. What sold me was the screen itself. While the 'glare' screens look ok in the showroom, for doing web design in mixed environments (I work/travel) the anti-glare high-res screen in the Mac can't be beat. I've never seen a PC that comes close.

From a functionality standpoint they're pretty similar. When I was used to using PCs, the Mac felt awkward, now it's the other way around. Some of the functionality is different.

The only other major difference is that Photoshop on PC seems to crash more than on my Mac. I lost my work plenty of times on the PC (save plenty!), but rarely have that problem anymore. Maybe once every 3 months.

I think Mac is very much good for designing. It is the best quality product from Mac that offers to many features.

As long as you are using Adobe CS5 for designing, it doesn't matter if you are on a PC or Mac. I would not recommend you to use MAC as you are new to designing, you wont be able to concentrate on designing as you would be feeling bit odd all the time. You may try it later on when you feel, you are expert in your skills and now you can try to learn something new such as a MAC.

I'm working with both and I have to say that if you only look at Adobe CS5 you won't experience much difference. The only thing is that MAC is overall a bit more stable and is less sensitive to Adobe CS5 crashing. And I seem to work quicker on a MAC since MAC OS X works with so much useful keyboard shortcuts!

Thanx for the tips. Adobe CS3 is the program I am learning on now, so really have no real others to compare. But, as I said, I will need to replace my machine within the next 60 days. I just like to use my precious time economically.

Just keep in mind that CS5 is a bit resource hungry so whatever direction you go make sure to add a lot of RAM. If PC go 64-bit rather than 32-bit.

Hi warrior*me!

I have been doing web design for 5+ years now and I feel 100% more comfortable with a PC platform. Not just for design, but for navigation and user experience. I used to be familiar with CS in both platforms and from my experience there isn't any difference with creatign websites on either. Except for browsers. You would still want to make sure to test all browsers on both platforms.

PCs are usually cheaper with more ram and hd space. You would find more software / freeware for PC. PC's are cheaper to fix.

Macs are more secure. People who go with Mac LOVE them. They LOOK awesome. Most design companies require Mac knowledge.

How about Mac AND PC? With any intel Mac, you can install windows via a Bootcamp partition on your hard drive and access them simultaneously with software like Parallels or VMware.

I am primarily a Mac user who occasionally needs to use software only available for PC, so this has worked out well for me.

My experience with Adobe software on both platforms has been excellent. Any gui differences between the two can be easily mastered. If you can, try Adobe's 30 day trial on a Mac before you make a decision on which platform to buy.

Personally I think most people are comfortable with what they know best. If you learned on a Mac that is likely the best choice and if you learned on a PC that may be the best option.

I am using CS4 on my PC and it is working perfectly.
My configurations are:
2.4 GHz Core 2 duo
360 GB Hard Drive
2GB RAM
OS Windows 7
I have used Mac too, and in my point of view there is not any problem with both for using Adobe Photoshop.
