I have been looking for a banner plugin for wordpress. I want to put banners on my site but most plugin's I found put banners in my posts and thats just annoying. I want them to go on the sides of my site, where there is room. Can anyone recommend a good banner plugin?

Sounds as though you don't need a plugin - if you are going to add banners to your sidebar - simply add a text widget and add the banner code inside that.

    Just a thought . . .

but then wouldn't the ad just end up in the sidebar?

I presumed that's what you meant?

If not - where exactly are the "sides of your site"?

look at my site, see how there are spaces between the sides of the browser and the sidebar. Its the first link in my signature.

That is the 'background' of your site and is not a good spot for ads as most computer users don't see that space. You need a big widescreen monitor to see that space. Smaller screens/windows squeeze that space away and no one can see it.

Actually I am on a 12" screen, but I see what you mean. I thought it might be a good spot because I see banners in the background space all the time on other sites.

I just do not want intrusive ads. Do you guys have any suggestions on non instrusive ads? I added a few adsense links to the bottom of every other post. But i would also like some banners around too.

    OK - I see now

That area is outside the "normal margins" of your wp site and setup - I can't think of a plugin that would cope with that.

I suspect it would take some hard-coding of your background setup to achieve what you need (not impossible though!)

    All the best

Possible - but maybe not ideal:-

Do you need both your present left & right sidebars (convert one to use for ads and other widgets)

What about a four-column theme (variable width to get the most out of what could be narrower columns)

    Still thinking . . . .

I supposed I could try to put some small ads underneath the widgets already there

Maybe add a small 250x250 ad box (image and/or links) on the right sidebar just below the "tags" box. Make it the same color (if not using image ads) and it will blend right in and fit perfectly in that wasted space.

just did and it looks good. Except I think I need to wait until It actually displays an ad
where do you guys usually put your ads?

I put my ads right in front of their face. They blend in to the sites theme, but it is right there looking for attention. I want them to click it or I don't get paid.

Ah, I hate a site with annoying ads so I figure almost everyone else feels the same way. I plan on building a list and making more money from that than anything else on my site. That way my site can be free, and I can still make money off of it and build my empire.
