I am looking for a WordPress photo album plugin that has several features.
  • It must be compatible with WP 3.0.3
  • It must have the ability for thumbnails
  • It must have an easy to use administration area
  • It must use shortcodes to create pages, albums, galleries, and slideshows
  • It must be able to allow visitors to the site to add their own photos
  • It must be able to be moderated
  • It must have the ability to title and add captions
  • It can be free or paid
I am not sure if there is a plugin out there that can do all of this, but if you know of one please direct me to it ASAP. I need it for a site I am helping to design for a Class Reunion.

Thanks in advance for helping out.

I think you can find an answer at wordpress.org.

Tried that can't find one to my liking other than the NextGen Gallery, but it won't do everything I want.

Up till these requirements NextGen is doing all of that. For the rest see below:

It must be able to allow visitors to the site to add their own photos
Registered users of the level defined by you should be able to do it...

It must be able to be moderated
Don't remember this one... but don't your trust your classmates?

It must have the ability to title and add captions
    I thought NextGen did this...

Last year I also made a WP site for my reunion. I filtered the "members" at the first registration level; i.e. in order to see the important things, they MUST register and the admin has to approve every registration. So, I approved only the classmates and after that I let them add bio, address, pictures etc.

But maybe your setup is different and you want ONLY pictures gallery... in which case you should use an image gallery script, right?

      Istvan,

You're right about the first part for NextGEN. It does most of this, but I do not recall how I could define registered users to add their own photos inside of NextGEN. Maybe you could direct me in how to do this.

As to the trust issue towards the classmates, to be honest we had quite a few mischievous classmates. Not sure who to trust or not for the 20th reunion. I mean we should be able to trust all of them, but we can't take the chance of somebody posting some type of inappropriate pictures from those classmates that are still a little bit undermatured.

Yes, NextGEN does allow for titles and captions.

You are correct that we *ONLY* wanted an image gallery, but unfortuantely I am not a programmer and the plugin would be easier for us to use. I know that's what a plugin is basically, but what I mean is that I can't do the script myself to create one. I would love to learn how to do this. I have a plethora of ideas and add-ons for current plugins that I want to readjust, unfortunately I don't have the skill.

I would love to see the backend and how you created your reunion site. I am using WP 3.0.3 at the current time and will be upgrading to the more secure 3.0.4 that just came out. Maybe you can show me some things on the backend and how they appear on your frontend, if you have the time, or maybe you can do it in a short video. I would really love and appreciate the opportunity to see how you did things so I can learn more about WP. If you can, please PM me to try to set this up. If your time is limited and you can't do this then I understand. In that case, maybe you can direct me to where I can find this information.

      Thanks In Advance,

I could show it to you... although you wouldn't understand anything that's going on there, unless you are fluent in Hungarian

I have used a localized version of WP (they have it in many, many languages); localized plugins or I quickly translated the ones I needed... which means even the backend is in Hungarian.

BTW, if you want an image gallery you don't need to be a programmer: as there are open source/free blogging tools like WP, there are also many free/open source gallery scripts.
What I meant by that remarks was that if you don't need the content publishing MAIN feature of WP, then you should find the right tool for the job. I see too often cases where people try to "force" WP to do things that it wasn't meant to do instead of looking for a proper scriptthat does exactly what they want...
