What's More Fitting... Traditional Website or Blog?

I apologize in advance if I placed this question in the wrong section....

Hey guys, thought I'd reach out to you for a little advice...

I have a friend that makes handmade floral arrangements and decorations for birthdays, weddings, funerals, etc. Her birthday is coming up, and I was thinking about buying her a domain name and hosting as a gift that "keeps on giving". Her business has been sputtering a bit, and I really think that a SEO optimized website could definitely help her in that regard, since about 40% of consumer purchases begin with a Google search (I read that somewhere recently).

With a service-based, localized business such as hers, I've analyzed the Keyword tags of her competitions websites, and I think I could do a good job of helping her get into the first page of Google for her service locally, after some time.

If I chose to move forward with this "gift", I'm a bit torn between whether it should be a blog or a static website. I was thinking that a blog may be easier for her to update... In addition, a blog would also allow me to chip in from time-to-time (she lives 3 hours away) and add content here and there to help make the site bigger, and to help in SEO efforts, since she's not very computer-savvy yet, but knows how to type and upload pictures... You know, basic stuff.

I was thinking that I could just add some static "Page links" to the top of the Page one of the blog that would provide links to pictures of her work, a "Contact Us" page, etc., so that it could still have a bit of that static web page functionality.

So, in summary, my questions is:

What do you think about my rationale about using a blog vs. a traditional website for her business, and which do you think is the best option under the circumstances?

I would just go with a blog. I mean, you've got pages with Wordpress. So, technically you could make a static site with Wordpress. Just set the home page as a page (instead of the recent blog posts). There are plenty of business Wordpress themes that have a blog feature / section, too.

I would make a static page which features her products to make sure you are targeting that. I would use Wordpress and write articles (blog) which you can even incorporate in a widget/sidebar so that people who want to read can view the articles.

A blog would be the way to go nowadays.

You can format it to look like a static site and still add content regularly.

If I may, I'd formulate this a bit differently...

Use a blogging software (CMS) for the ease of updating, remote collaboration [you and her] and all the benefits that come with it.

It doesn't necessarily means you MUST create a blog! Selecting the right theme the site can have the layout/look/design that fits the best for its content... and still not looking "bloggish".

Usually, I am against using WP for everything but in this case it may be beneficial. Providing you know what you are doing

    Good luck!
