Hi Guys a bit of friendly advice would be appreciated. OK I've spent the last two weeks or so playing around with the BranfordMagazine Wordpress Theme. I put it live some days, back but it is still a work in progress hence the appeal for advice, suggestions, warnings etc. You'll find it Worldwide Infomedia Services My idea behind the blog is to blog on Google's Hot Trends using Steven Wagenheim techniques, (if you are reading Steven I'd appreciate a few comments). One of the major drawbacks I find with Hot Trends is the fact that it only seems to be US based. Living in Ireland there are a lot of the phrases that mean little or nothing to me, it is a pity that Google don't do one for Ireland and the UK. At the moment I'm having a look at Yahoos Buzz - any suggestions on where I might find current UK-Ireland trends greatly appreciated For those of you who want to point your browser in my direction here are a few things I'd like some help on. The first is the sidebar. You'll see that it has a lot of white space down in it - wasted space. I was quite simply wondering what to do with it? If I try to monitize it by putting in the like of a Amazon link I'd be asking myself the question would it look to much like a grab the viewer whatever the cost type of site? I was also thinking of putting a few snippets from some of my other sites in there. What would you do. To of the sidebar I have a number of affiliate links - three at the time of writing this post - and I'm looking around for a fourth. Currently they are all from Clickbank. There are a few that I'd like to promote but they use these dam 'special agent' offereing you a discount if you try and leave the page and I just refuse to promote these. I've actually dropped one from one of my other sites, and it made the occasional sale, when the promoter introduced their special agent. Of course I'm interested in what you think of the general layout and if there are any obvious Bo-Boos I haven't picked up on. What do you think of the video in the left column does it distract from the ad block right beside it (middle column.) Maybe the landing page is to general - the ads I'm seeing suggest that the page is to general, but maybe time will heal that - when the blog becomes established. Heck, I don't have to go into detail, most of you are probably more experienced at this game than I am so fire away. Point your browser here: Worldwide Infomedia Services Kevin |

Nice site Kevin, A couple of suggestions that you might want to think over. Sidebar - You asked about the white space on the sidebar. I would hard code html with pics and descriptions of my other sites, as long as the are somewhat relevant to this blog. As for the video, it may be different for others, but is does distract me somewhat from the other content. I would actually put it right into the sidebar. Not too much else to add except for I would write a more define title tag for the index page. Good luck! |
