tips for my new site by looking at my old one?

so i started this site a while back basically in preparation for a bigger site i have upcoming. basically, similar niche sites to me are horrible so i want to do a better version that is more user friendly.

i knew NOTHING about web designing when i started this and learned on the fly. i made this site with webs, which i despise! but i have no idea about how to do a larger scale site. in fact, i think i will need to find a partner to do so.

anyway, i was looking for some opinions on if this site is something that is appealing to the eye and user friendly. like i said, my competitors are horrible to navigate, imo. this site will actually be a site that is a labor of love and not just to make money (although i want to make money!). i have a lot of inside contacts in the niche and have a lot of resources available.

anyway, the site is pretty bare as it got cluttered and i needed to refocus. can you help me with your thoughts on what i can do to improve this site as well as what to do when i launch the much larger site? thanks

    I've just had a quick look at your site and I think a magazine style would work really well seeing as it's a 'news' kind of site. You could possibly look at building it on wordpress, there are a number of magazine style templates which you customise and build off.

    As for the look of it if you want to keep it in darker colours I would make the whole body black and use less colours in the titles, so maybe most text white with just one other colour used for the titles but experiement with using different fonts/sizes/styles to make the headings stand out, like what you see on a magazine cover.

    hey! I just had a look at your site and i have a few suggestions that might improve the layout. If you want to have the black background, I think it would be important to create a better contrast for the navigation, I found the small red letters a little difficult to read. You might also want to improve the green "download" and "play now" buttons, they seem to have a thin white border. The top banner seems unproportionally large and of little low resolution. At first glance, i didn't know how it is connected to the main topic of the site and it doesn't seem to be clickable. If it is not essential, i would potentially give more importance to the logo so people remember your site.

      thanks for the advice. i will try them out tomorrow and see if it helps. the top banner is the nickname that the boxer goes buy. but yea, maybe i should make it smaller. thanks
