A Rather Naive Question About WP Theme Designs

I've been using WP for years, can tweak css files and some theme functions. However, I am not a theme designer by any stretch of the imagination.

The problem for which I am trying to find a work-around is that I have a theme that I really like and that is perfect for a customer's website. However,the developer no longer supports it. It's an older theme that has many features that I want to use. However, it also has encrypted code in it, which I definitely do not want.

So my question is:

If I were to hire a theme designer, could they duplicate the look and feel of the theme using some of the existing files from the original theme, add some new features, and rename the theme to a custom theme name?

I don't want to infringe on anyone's work - I just want a basic, custom theme with a few modifications from a theme I already like. I don't really want to modify the existing theme because of the encrypted coding so I'm a bit stuck on this one.

Suggestions gratefully appreciated...

    If they are worth their name (theme designer) they should be able to do it... even without the files, just by looking at it

      Like Istvan said, I can look at a picture of a site, and recreate it, exact based on looking at it.

      I wouldn't have time to do it, but yes you can find someone that can do this for you. just make sure they are reliable, and if hiring from here or a worker site, be sure they have previous work with out of there control comments

      ex: vworker ratings for larger projects.
