You might try adding a video, if you can find one that is consistent with the content you already have on the page,

First, don't starting adding little "do-nothings" and "filler" to your homepage. That is just as worse as having only a single picture.

The best thing to do is make your home page visually appealing by simply adding relevant graphical STRUCTURAL design elements. There's much to be said about a clean minimalist design that highlights only the applied content.

The proper use of gradients, thin clean outlines and proportioned overlapping geometrical shapes (alpha-blended) can really be a visual oasis. Get yourself a nice graphical/design editor like Photoshop or Xara and experiment with clean almost zen- like elements.

    Don't be afraid of whitespace.

Post a link to the site you might get better answers as its really hard to say not knowing anything.

The problem is that you are trying to build it without the correct tools. What makes a site look great these days is two things at the foundation:

          CSS file
          Cool graphics and buttons

I also agree with the above person about gradients, etc.

You did not put the tools you are using or your skill level.

For this type of situation, if you have a little cash I would recommend joining a site like www.deonixdesign.com and download a template that you like, then strip out the main part of it - such as the main graphics - and just keep the CSS file, and some of the cool elements, so the end result will actually look like you want it to and will not look like the original template.

The best thing to do to make a web design interesting is to have a great CSS file. If you are doing your spec in Photoshop, then you can play around with some ideas, but it will take a long time to build out a template from that PSD file and create CSS, or DIV tags, etc.

So it is much better to start from the exact opposite point of view. Take a pre-existing template and strip out the content and use a tool like Dreamweaver and Photoshop to completely put in your own graphics, but you will keep the CSS file.

I suppose you could also find a website online that you like and look at the code for its CSS file, then put the URL in your browser, save the CSS file under a different name, and then put it into your site workspace and use it for your own page. People do that all the time, it is like borrowing a javascript from a website.

          I hope that helps.

If you have very little content then should choosed short width and height website design. As it will match with your little content. You also can place some images and video on your sites to offer unique and new look to your design.
