Best way to get maximum aweber exposure... maximum sign-ups?

Hey what's up, I'm Checkplease, and I'm new here, so apologies of this is in the wrong forum.

I'm thinking about adding an aweber e-mail list to my website, and I'm just wondering; is it targeted traffic you should be going for? Or should you shoot for the maximum number of sign-ups, and hope to with through attrition and ad clicks?

Because what stops me from putting up a new domain, adding the aweber sign-up box, and billing it as "free Justin Bieber ringtones" or something similar, advertising it on craigslist, and harvesting a ton of e-mails?

Nothing. The real question, however, is: what the heck will you be doing with those emails?

With the example you gave above you could, probably, get a lot of crazy teenager fans to sign up. If they are your targeted group and you know what will you market to them and why you want them on your list... that's fine.
Otherwise is wasting money (on your aweber account).

But if your target market/group is my generation with certain special interests, let's say established baby boomers interested in expensive brand sport-style watches... then your list built on justinbieberstuff would be completely useless

Unless you know exactly what will you do with your list... don't even bother.

    Hi Check,

If that site is your "sandbox" why don't you give it a try? You'll never know the ACTUAL results not unless you give it a shot.

On all accounts though I agree with Istvan, do you have a plan of action of "what to do" with those subscribers when they sign-up. Remember if you come short of what they were expecting, they'll probably unsubscribe.

    Best regards,

    Jeedo

Fair enough, and thanks for the help.

I'm thinking my site will be for teenage boys and game related; video games and other games.

Yes, Justin Bieber sign-ups would be wasted but maybe not. Girls play video games too.

Or what if I create sub-pages; ie blah.com/free-justin-bieber-ringtones.html and still continue collecting e-mails after the initial site is set up?

As far as them unsubscribing, yeah it's a blow, but then again, maybe not. It's really a numbers game, x number of people visit a day, a certain percentage will click the ad.

      Thanks for the help guys.
