Idiot Needs Help! Drool is Ruining His Latop!

Apparently I am one of those clueless wonders who you see at the mall randomly knocking things over and spilling his 200 ounce Big Gulp all over the place in the Apple Store...

How was I anointed Ruler of the Clueless?

I simply wanted a nice looking, custom-esque graphic opt-in box for a website I'm getting ready to launch.

I stumbled onto these Flash graph optins. I was assured they required no skill whatsoever. None. You could literally be brain dead and still be able to get these up on your site.

I am apparently worse off than the brain dead.

Here's the deal: the file came with no instructions whatsoever. Remember: brain dead easy.

The file I want to use if for a sidebar opt in graphic that has a scrolling headline.

There are two files that need to be changed: a php file for the responder code and a text file for the head lines. Got it. I understand this.

Here's where somebody comes up behind me and whacks me over the head with a cast iron frying pan: There are four total files: a php file, a text file, a shockwave file and blog1.html file.

I have no idea where to put these files or what to put in the widget for the sidebar.

Can anyone tell me what I'm supposed to do before I drown in my own drool?

(I use a stock wordpress blog. Yes, I did contact the seller. Worthless.)

All joking aside, I truly appreciate any help you might be able to provide. I'm assuming this is an easy issue and I truly am a dunce. Even if that is the case, I appreciate the time you may take to help me out.

Respectfully,

Dan

@dan - without actually seeing the files, it's tough to say what specifically you need to do. However, I'd bet that those files were all written with the assumption that they would all be in the same directory, so that's a start. You can (mostly) verify by opening up the php and the html file and ensuring that the references to the other files don't look like they reference the files in subdirectories (ex: dir/file) ./file is ok because that just means the same directory.

As for where to put those files, I think you can put them anywhere in your web docs. Then you would reference the PHP and/or HTML from within your WP theme.

I know, I know, I may have left you more confused! Don't worry, it's not necessarily easy even after you've done it a few times - always depends on the software and the instructions. No instructions suck for even the most experienced ninja.

My suggestion is to bug the developer a lot. You paid for this after all. The other is to say what the name of the product is. Maybe someone else who has used it before can help.

    Good luck!

Thanks KJ. That does confuse me a little more, but I'm away from my personal computer right now. Your suggestions will help once I'm looking at the files.

    The product is called Flashoptin.

Hmm... I did a search for "Flashoptin" and "Flash optin" but it's too generic. I'm not seeing any definitive results for a product called that. How about a URL?
