Hi Warriors,

I always hear that we should constantly backup our sites. Please tell me what should I backup.

Should I make a full backup? How can I do it?

Thanks,

Make a full back up if you using cPanel, it's a quick button.

That's what I use as well. Incredibly easy and self explanatory. Once you get it set up, you can set it up to backup automatically as often as you want.

for me the best solution is that you connect via FTP and backup all files, then connect to your phpmyadmin and backup your database.
If you contact your hosting provider they will explain how to do it.

I use the WP-DB-Backup plugin for my blogs. You can schedule the plugin to e-mail you a backup of your blog at any set interval. Its very good and easy to set up.

        I second that BUT -

I just had a blog where the backup didnt work - in this particular case the download monitor plugin couldnt be restored...

so before you go out and start a blog with 1000 posts check out if the plugins you are using "are coming back" after a backup

Yeah, Backing up is very important timely. Because if your daytabase gets erased, You will lose whatever you have written. That is not in your control so the best way to avoid is do back up your data.

I do my backup in two steps.

Step 1 is for the database files (stores your settings, posts, pages etc), which I use the WP-DB-Backup plugin for as others have mentioned on this thread.
Step 2 is for the Wordpress files (theme files, plugins etc) and to do that I login via FTP and backup the "wp-content" folder.

As long as you have those two parts you should be able to completely restore your Wordpress site should anything happen.

You need to backup both your WP installation and the data base. I just wrote about this, because I accidentally deleted my husband's site last weekend while I was cleaning up some server files. Fortunately, we had automatic backups set up, so I am still married (and alive).

There are two free plugins that will do the job for you automatically: WP Backup and WP DB Backup. You can read more at http://cathystucker.com/back-up-your-blog

With so many more people starting to use WP as their money sites, the idea of backup is a really important topic. It is not a hard thing to do, but for some reason a lot of people skip this step.

I think WP is a fabulous program. It allows anyone to create a decent looking site with very little trouble. But since all of the pages of content are created and stored online, it is vitally important to have a copy for yourself somewhere easily accessible.

BackWPup does plugin/theme files backup as well as database backup. It can send the backups to your email, FTP server, Amazon S3, and more. Well worth checking out. (It's free and open source, by the way.)
