I began to develop templates based on Joomla 1.6 version. Joomla 1.6 is a new upgrade of Joomla. I can say that it is the most popular Open Source Content Management System in the world. Also I am going to start new project HikaShop Templates. HikaShop is an eCommerce extention for Joomla. What do you think about upgrade? How long do you use Joomla?

I have used Joomla for a long time, along with every other CMS out there. Joomla is my favorite I think, and is very flexible.

I don't use 1.6 yet until it will be easier to migrate.

I have not migrated to Joomla 1.6 as I am not sure if my template is compatible there have been a few instances of the new upgrade not being compatible with certain templates

Most of my website design is using Joomla (arround 30+ sites), YEs.. I love Joomla. Usually I'm using Joomla 1.5 , and not yet using 1.6, because this new version doesn't has a lot compatible extension yet. But, sure later I'll use this 1.6 version.
TIPS: Just make sure your Joomla is secure enough, add some security extensions on it. Some of my sites got trojan and security problems many times.

Joomla's stance is that 1.6 is more housekeeping and adding more layers of authentication.I have tested it with some of my commercial templates and they do not work. Looks like the whole template model has changed.

I won't move to 1.6 until it's fully stable (at least 1.6.5) AND is compatible with the extensions I use regularly.

    Probably next year at least.

Not sure if you are asking me, but I have been working with Joomla since 2005, and I have gotten a feel for upgrade issues that can come about.

Also, since I currently have my network of 15+ sites (live and in development) all in Joomla 1.5.20+, it would be a pretty poor decision to upgrade those when the relevant components are not yet available for the new version.

i create my own templates, components and plugins for joomla and consider myself very VERY familiar with Joomla i have created and worked on possibly 350+ sites since Joomla 1.0.5 lol

bout 2yrs ago i did a 2hr presentation at the SEM for SMB conference alongside the co-founder of Joomla Johan Jahnsenns about Joomla SEO

however - to answer your question i wont be making any clients sites in Joomla 1.6+ for at least another 6 months - so far i am not too happy with the backend of joomla from a developer point of view and in regards to accessing and editing templates, from my own hands on testing its a lot more long winded then in 1.5 but coupled with letting the components catch up and mature too...

How do you guys feel Joomla Compares to Wordpress in the following Categories:

    1) Ease of Use
    2) Stability
    3) For Membership Sites
    4) Plug ins and Extensions

Lastly, if there is anyone on this thread that would like to contact me about Joomla site development and can offer tutorials or point me in the right direction for best tutorial sites/resources, I would appreciate it.

I recently bought the "official Joomla" guide book, and am going through it slowly, but I am a very visual and "hands on" type learner - I have to physically do something 3-4 times before I learn it well.

    Warmest Regards,

    - JT

    PS post # 50!!!

PPS - I neglected to mention that my fitness site (look at my avatar) is a Joomla site that I paid to have developed

as both a developer and entrepreneur i wish i had the time to knock out a couple of tutorials out that show you how to master joomla in 15 minutes - perhaps later this year!

@JT i would personally answer joomla is the way to go for all of those things!

whats your technical ability like? do you understand basic css? any php? or html?

Installation has not changed is the same number of steps until wont cover this in the work of our review. The only thing that would be nice to see in future versions and that he wished to see what this statement will be the automatic removal of the list of installation / completion of the installation process. Now, the installer expects the user to delete automatically removed when this would make things a bit more convenient. This is not a major issue in all, a beautiful and simple that it would be nice to see in future releases.
