Hi Guys i run a freelance web design business and i'm not quite sure which facebook account to set up for my business so that friends, family and potential clients will hear about web designer services i offer and basically keep them updated about whats going on in my business.

So should i set up a fan page, a group page or business page? Maybe all three? I also how can i get people interested and become a friend/fan on my pages?

Thanks

Hi there Commissioner - a facebook page = fan page = business page (all the same just have a little bit of a name change over time).

I would recommend you go with facebook page as groups now have restrictions on them and if you are wanting to do "business to business" facebook pages are the way to go.

There is truck loads of really good tutorials out there -if you look in my signature there is a link to a 7 day course (all free) that will show you how to set it up your facebook page. Once you have your page up and running next step is to invite your customers, friends etc to your page.

You can setup a link back to your main website plus a a shopping cart right on your page if you wish to sell from within Facebook. There are so many possibilities - just get started and then develop it!

Like Donna mentioned, you definitely want to use a fan page (and not a personal account) to promote your business. I'd stay away from groups as they really aren't meant for businesses and groups don't have access to stats and some other nice features that fan pages have.

Once you've got your page, getting likes can be a challenge even if you have a couple hundred personal friends you can message and ask to "like" you. I paid $5 to someone on fiverr to ask their friends to like my page. I don't think there's much value in that, but I got about 10 likes in a week which helped me quickly get to the 25 likes you need to get a short facebook url you can use for your page.

    Cheers,

    Steve

The Facebook is a great tool to reach out to the target audience. A business if it needs to flourish has to have the attention of the target audience.

I think that social networks, including Facebook work better if anyone wants to create a community and to keep in touch with customers and partners, instead marketing the business.
