Almost finished this site for a comedy group and would really like some opinions about the homepage (been staring at it for too long to make any sort of sound judgement)

Improv Comedy Group

The homepage design is almost finished.. the rest of the site is bare-bones at the moment, just need some feedback about the homepage right now. Haven't done any SEO on it yet and there's a couple of missing pages. IE only until I switch to CSS.

Thanks for your help.

That page is completely and utterly wrecked in firefox.
You should have used CSS and not some chopped up table thingy.

(You did say to kick the crap out of it :-p)

Yep.. How's it looking in IE?

Gonna be converting it to CSS once the design is complete.

Neat design, body copy's a bit small on the homepage (not from a design standpoint, just for readability's sake).

I like it, but to me it's a bit "scrunchy" (That's a technical term)

I think you need some more space around your elements. I would widen up the outer edges so your "upcoming comedy shows", "email newsletters" etc... blocks have some more breathing room on the outside edges.

The header especially needs some room above it. It just kind of smashes into the top of the browser. It almost looks a bit chopped off on top.

The gradient on your upper links doesn't match the gradient in your text boxes. Matching them to the silver/grey of the rest would match the site better and help continuity.

      My 3 cents

Ok, here it goes, dont get upset...images are to blurry, and they graphics and the fonts are blurry also.

The color scheme has a flow to it, but its to dark I believe?

There are too many font choices, its best to stick with just 2 and a max of 3 fonts.

The guy in the chair has a shadow that's too dark, it would be best, to have it so he has no shadow at all.

The header can be improved also.... it really does not benefit the page, it should be redone and include higher quality images.

I did not look at the coding side, but someone mentioned css, which would be good, but its not a deal breaker as long as the tables are organized and set-up correctly they could work on something like this.

Someone else mentioned white space, which is correct, everything is scrunched, because the page width size leaves no room for design or composition.

With that being said, its an ok page if your not a designer, but if you were a trained graphic designer then I would have to say that lots of design principles have been left out...

No offence meant at all, in anything written above.....

A lot of the buttons on the top nav bar didn't work, and different ones didn't work on different pages. (Can't click book tickets, for example) The text that rolls up behind the guy when you hover over the "rejects" faces is hidden by the guy so the text can't be seen until it scrolls up. On the few pages I could get to (previous shows, what is improv), there is no footer, so the page looks broken. None of the links in the footer are clickable. I liked the design at first glance, but it is kinda narrow and most of your links aren't working (maybe you're not there yet?).

I like the overall design with the darker colors. It reminds me of being at the shows.
I think the menu could be a larger font so it stands out more, and the page could be wider so it doesn't look so cramped.
There's not a lot of content on the site, but it will come I'm sure.
