Site SEO - What would it cost?

After years of working to get my sites right, I've become extremely tired of the struggle and would really love to find someone to 'fix' them or rebuild them for me. At the moment, they are not working for me at all! I'm not making sales now (probably because my competition has overtaken me). I've slipped down in the rankings. Google doesn't like me anymore.

The sites in question are:
Check These Ebook Web Site Categ (this one especially)
Tips & Strategies for Anxiety Relief (not sure if I'm going to keep this one)

Options are
- fix what I've already built
- redo the entire site with static pages
- redo the entire site in WordPress with a suitable Theme

What would it cost?

Would anyone be interested in a skills exchange? I can offer writing expertise, proofread your material / content... or maybe something else?

Sylvia

I suggest WordPress because the code is clean and search engine friendly, and because it's really easy to use. I'm currently running a special that may help you. It won't let me link to it, so here's the URL: http://www.warriorforum.com/warriors...guru-hire.html

    Thanks,

      Hi Lucinda,

Thank you for the suggestion. The thing is, my sites are years old and have content already. I just need the sites themselves fixed somehow. The problem isn't so much in the content as it is in the SEO elements (HTML code, hidden and obvious elements, etc.) and whatever else it takes to get a better ranking than PR1. I mean, cripes. One? It was 3 at one point until something went topsy-turvy about a year or so ago.

Today, I can't make a sale for H*ll or High Water! And I don't know what's wrong or how to fix it. It would seem that I've "lost it" - or maybe never really had it because over the past 5+ years, my sales have been meager, at best.

So that's what I'm looking for. Some desperate help to get my sites working right, for Google to give them a higher PR and recognize them as relevant to what I'm offering, and of course, to start selling again.

The problem is that the persistent non-existent sales means I cannot afford such a service, but I am willing and quite able to provide equivalent services to whomever can do this.

I'd again have to switch moving to wordpress. I'm able to get my sites on the first page of google for my targeted keywords just using some basic SEO principles and, yep, you guessed it... Wordpress.

I do have several more recent sites that I created in WordPress, so I am familiar with how easy it is to be indexed. In fact, those sites (which are only about a year or so old) are doing just as well, if not better, than my 2 old static sites which are at least 5-8 or more years old. One site began in 1998, but I've made a LOT of changes to it since. The first few versions were pretty pathetic, looking back on them now.

I'm just not sure the design of the site is suited to WordPress without a lot of changes, but its not impossible.

    Sylvia,

Consider this as an answer to both your threads regarding these sites.

Despite the prevailing urban myth... G. and other search engines don;t like WP per se.
    They like the
    a) relatively clean code (unless the user f***s up the code by copying from Word)
    b) the fresh content promoted by pings/rss etc.

You were right about the options you have... although #1 and #2 are almost the same: fixing/making SE friendly HTML files.

Converting them to WP would work... except the re-creation of your present URLs for the individual pages (mainly because of the capital letters in file names!).
It depends how much backlinks you have or how important is for you to keep the structure of the pages/urls.

Now, when converting it to WP you can go and create a theme that looks like the existing site - which in this case not really desirable
It is ugly as it is, why would you re-make it? (sorry)
BTW, using another design/look wouldn't change anything about the content!!!

However, more important in such cases would be the conservation of the structure of the content; i.e. to keep the internal links, URLs of pages, categories (if any).

Unfortunately, in the replies you got everybody is just pushing their own services and "advice" to use their services without any sign of understanding what were you asking or of the tasks ahead.

I am not anymore in this kind of business but I'd be glad to help you to work out what you need.

      Istvan,

Thank you so much for your response.

There's no reason to switch to WP, other than to make it easier to work with the site and make sure it's SE friendly. Which means, repairing the problems that Site Advisor discovered, which looked like a massive task, especially since I don't understand most of what it's telling me about charset and things.

And also the fact that my FrontPage is proving more problematic that necessary. You are right about copying from Word, which I've probably done in some cases. But I figured, it's two programs created by the same company. Why wouldn't they readily integrate? Since then, I've learned otherwise.

But I must say, "ouch" - you don't like my design? I thought it was simple, uncluttered, straightforward and easy to navigate and scan for my visitors. Don't get me wrong, I'm definitely open to suggestion and am willing to consider alternatives. Clearly, if I'm not making sales, this alone could be the reason. People see it and think, "Yuck!" and leave without venturing any further. Maybe it confuses them or they don't see what they want fast enough. I don't know, but the main page (of my static sites) do have a bounce rate of 85% or something ridiculous.

One problem I've faced with this site (originally on Tips & Strategies for Anxiety Relief before I changed that to an anxiety site) - was how to market a site that consists of so many different topics - namely, a variety of book topics. I ended up creating pages to promote each product and marketing those individually, rather than marketing the entire site as a whole. So it kind of got built from the inside out. As I added books, I created / modified the main page. And then, I just transferred it to ebook-haven.com a few years back.

book-titles.ca was started in 1998, so you can see how discouraged I'd be after spending so much time with nothing to show for it.

You are right about the URLs and wanting to keep the formats. While I don't have a ton of backlinks, the ones I do have are worth keeping - mostly being promoted on articles in circulation and some blog posts.

It's crucial at this point that I figure this out. I can't continue unless I start making money again.

That's pretty much where I'm at, so I would definitely appreciate any help/guidance you can provide to turn this in the right direction.

      Regards,
      Sylvia

These are 2 landing pages. Not blog posts or websites, Would be very eay to migrate the content into wordpress. I would suggest a premium wordpress framework and No theme or skin. I've written a review on the best framework for wordpress which is the thesis theme for wordpress. This is the theme i use and develop for my clients.

      Sorry, Brad. You lost me.

What do you mean, these are just 2 landing pages? My site contains many "landing pages" where I target specific promotions. For instance, one page might be to promote an anxiety book. I'll promote that and send people to that "landing page".

My site contains much more than a landing page, if by landing page you mean home page. In fact, I don't really know how many pages this one site has, but there is at least one for every product I promote - probably about 20 pages minimum.

I mean your sites are very simple. Would be very easy to move to wordpress and thats what i advise you to do. If you have several years experience you could pick this up fairly easily yourself. Are you looking at hiring someone or trying to figure out how to do it yourself?

PR as nothing to do with SERPS so why are you worried about that?

          Brad,

PR gives you an advantage in several areas.

          1. It indicates that Google sees your site as important and perhaps even an authority site, which translates into better credibility in the IM community

          2. Some sites will not link to you if you are not in a certain PR level, at least PR3.

          3. Some site directories will not list you if you do not have a PR3 or higher.

          There are probably more.

So there are good reasons to want a higher PR.

Regarding transferring the entire thing to a WP blog, my main point is trying to figure out how to "design" it in WP. I know WP has some limitations unless you have someone create a theme specifically for your needs.

You are right, I can move it over myself - a big job in my view, considering all the pages, columns, images, keywords/tags, etc. etc.

Also, from my experience, simply copy/pasting each static page content into WP doesn't work well. Even when I copy things from Word into Notepad, then copy from Notepad into an online form I still get formatting problems that I then have to go back and fix/reset.

I have a certain design in my head as per my static page that I don't know how to do in WP, or even if it's possible.

After reading everything people have said in this and my other thread, I'm turning more to just keeping with the static pages. It sounds like it would be easier and perhaps quicker than doing the entire jump to WP.
