Is there is a difference between using underscores vs dashes for pages on a website? Thought I read someplace one was better but can't remember.

Dashes vs underscores has been an ongoing debate in web development circles for years. A very good analysis of the subject can be found on the digitalpoint forum here: Domain Name Dilemma: Do Dashes or Underscores Goose Google Rankings More?

On a personal note, my preference is dashes, they're easier to read and easier to type (doesn't require hitting the shift key to type it in).

A simple way of seeing that underscores are not treated as spaces is to type a phrase into the searchbox, but with 2 words joined together by an underscore. Do the search and look at the “Results 1 – 10 of about …” bit. Each identified, non-stopword, word is linked to a definition, but not the pair that are joined by an underscore.
It’s not nearly as interesting as a trip in the Google time machine, but it’s a lot plainer
