One thing that helps is having the majority of your navigation towards the top of your html script and using "keywords" in the links. You can then use CSS to move the navigation wherever you want on the page, but the actual script will still have the nav at the top.

Flash will increase the load time of your website and flash website usually do not rank as high as normal ones.

Use CSS in your site for navigation because its seo friendly and table take to much time to load your site which doesn't good for seo friendly sites.

        1. keep it simple, too much info above the fold is confusing; give them eye candy...maybe scantily clad teens playing chase.

        2. Be clear about your conversion objectives..use anchor text not pictures of scantily clad teens playing chase.

        3. pictures and video is nice, no flash;

Use CSS for everything. First, it separates the design details from the user interface markup of the page. Also, it is much easier to change elements if they are contained in a separate css file. Just my cents...

Thanks for this information. I think it is very wise to learn about search engine optimizations, and all the related web design stuff before you set up a website. This is because you start out being visible from the word go. I am sure it takes alot of dedication but nothing good comes easy and am ready to learn. Thanks again to you all.

Find keywords that are high ranking in traffic and with a less serp count so for example if you search google for golf clubs and the count is 233,000,000 it's harder to rank at the top than if it was only 120,000, so choose keywords wisely and make sure they are scattered around your page but not too much otherwise google will think you are spamming, make sure you have all your meta tags done correctly :-

      Title
      Keywords
      Description

      Are the main ones

      Those are the basics

Oh and a good idea is to save your html pages with keywords in them so instead of having for example videos have marketing_technique_videos your keyword bein marketing technique.

You could also check out youtube for loads more tips.

I guess it is better to make a new website for your visitors and then trying to make it search engine friendly because at the end people would be reading the materials posted and published on your pages. Try using static kinds of web technologies and page building tactics, for example use HTML and combine it with CSS to adding new and fresh materials or contents to your website, add unique titles and descriptions to them.

Try using text based navigational menus, text links and sitemap styles because although images are easily accessible by search engines, but texts are still preferred. Your homepage should contain menus easy to reach by people and search engines. If a lot of pages are added to your website, use HTML sitemaps and put around only one hundred links per page so that they are indexed better and faster by engines.

Web standards – more than just ‘table-free sites’

The term web standards can mean different things to different people. For some, it is ‘table-free sites‘, for others it is ‘using valid code‘. However, web standards are much broader than that. A site built to web standards should adhere to standards (HTML, XHTML, XML, CSS, XSLT, DOM, MathML, SVG etc) and pursue best practices (valid

code, accessible code, semantically correct code, user-friendly URLs etc). In other words, a site built to web standards should ideally be lean, clean, CSS-based, accessible, usable and search engine friendly.

Common sense tells me that the markup language used to code a website doesnt sway seo much either way. Look inside the Thesis theme. They boast excellent seo, but theres SO much code behind the scenes it makes me scratch my head as to how its even possible that a spider get through all that stuff... However. People LOVE thesis, use it often and get incredible results. I know one person in particular who gets massive traffic with it and makes TONS of money.

This leads me to believe that it cant possibly matter all that much...

On that note, I would suggest learning the basics of on page optimization by a pro. THE most helpful seo guide that I learned from was called SEO Made Easy by Brad Callen years ago. It was a free email course that I devoured. Not sure if its still available but if you can find it, youre in luck... He also has a 7 day ecourse on bradcallen.com Its a little more complicated, but still very good.

The on page stuff is simple. Get all the elements in the right place on your website (title, description, h1 tags) and youre good to go. I follow that simple rule and my pages grade A's and A+'s in an optimization grader.

Make sure that your code is simple, clean and for the most part, validates. Pages load faster and helps the spiders see whats most important, your content.

When your onpage stuff is done, start with the offpage stuff - backlinking and other promotional stuff.... Social bookmarking/networking, article submission, directory submission, guest posting, video, podcasting, forums, blog comments and press releases. These methods havent changed in years, we only fail to do them. In my opinion, this is more important than the onsite stuff. Get the word out there like a madman and get people to your site.

optimize everything. Enabled GZip compression, and make sure your images all load quickly. Most of the other stuff has been covered. Use YSlow from Yahoo in Google Chrome Extensions to see if you're slow and where you can improve.

    Secondly, write efficient URLs.
    w*ww.mysite.com/page2.html

    vs

    w*ww.mysite.com/products/windmills/new-windmills

is way more descriptive to the search engine.
