PhotoShop Beginner Needs Advice

I have been using Paint Shop Pro for years but finally purchased PhotoShop and received it today.

I couldn't afford the newest version, and wasn't sure if my computer could handle it. I got CS3.

It took a while to install but I was surprised how fast it loaded after that and seems to work great. Not sluggish at all.

Would like some suggestions to learn Photo Shop.

Books, websites, reports or whatever.

Of course at first I need some basic instructions, but also some intermediate tips and tutorials would be good.

Thanks for your help.

I will give it a look. Video is good, but I prefer text/PDF usually.

      Thanks

I have CS3 but would tutorials from other versions work pretty much, or not?

Most of the functions should be the same, but you may only use CS3 tutorials, as they are all still available. That way all the worries of not having all the functionalities shown there go away.
Here is a list of only CS3 tutorials:
          search results | lynda.com

You may watch the beginnings of the tutorials for free, and if you decide to subscribe, it's only 25 dollars a month (you may see all you can watch for this). Premium (37.50) gives you additionally access to the workfiles, but in my opinion, that's not needed with Photoshop. It is useful with Flash and programming, to get the code.

    Try these free tutorials and resources;
Adobe Photoshop Tips, Tutorials, Free Downloads, and Help
    Website Design | PhotoshopStar
    Graphic & coding tutorials - Tutorialvault.net
    Design Tutorials at PhotoshopGuides.com

You could also just google whatever you are trying to do.
There are some good magazines available to that have Photoshop tutorials in.
When I first got Photoshop, I took a 6 week Photoshop course at my local college - invaluable!
It was good to be shown what to do and then ask specific questions about what I needed to Photoshop to do for my website.
I learnt on Photoshop Elements and even though I had CS3, was still able to work out where things were in CS3.
Hope this helps - good luck!

I'd have a play around with it first, try out all the features to see what they do and then you'll be able to see what you might need a bit of help on.

And for more complex stuff, I bought a big thick PS book by Martin Evening which is pretty good - anything more than I can handle, I refer to the book but if I need some visual guidance, I just head over to YouTube.
