How much would you pay for a WordPress theme?

Regardless of how easy or hard, graphic or code intensive, WordPress themes are time consuming. The time it takes to put together a theme ranges from three or four hours to three or four days.


Every WordPress designer has to go through the same process:
  • Design
  • Code
  • Skin for WordPress
  • Test
  • Correct
  • Validate
Some themes are free. Some cost $45 (per download). Some cost $2,000 (completely unique/custom and exclusive). Question is...


How much would you pay for an custom/unique/exclusive theme?

    99 out of 100 times I would pay $39 per year, this being elegantthemes.com

    I have been using them for quite some time and very very rarely am faced with a situation that one of their (Nick's) themes does not work for. When that happens though, I will pay about 10% of the most I think my client is willing to pay me for the project.

      I dont want a client to get adventurous one day and Google free wp themes and seeing her site in themeforest.com after I just charged her 400.00 for a website, lol.
      Better to build your own custom wordpress themes.

            Any specific reason that you think India doesn't have real web designers or developers? One of the most popular WP theme club is Indian.

              I think that India has great web designers. The problem I have is that they do them for 40 bucks a pop in 3 hours and they are driving down the expected value of custom wordpress themes and development. I do a custom theme in 3 days normally. Its a lot of work to build both the theme and then configure, develop and launch there new site for nothing, lol. That's all i am saying.

                Interesting thread. Though, even more interesting is that it takes me a few weeks to a month to build a theme, if not an entire month (for mass market). So I wonder how folks are turning around themes quicker than that.

                To answer the OP's question - I would pay up to $99 for a non-exclusive, and up to $X,000 for an exclusive as it really does take some serious time, skills, and effort to build a solid theme.

                Do you go from design to theme in 3 days, or do mean you customize an already made theme in three days for a client?

                I see your site for your own business is a theme from themeforest, just clarifying.
