You can try Joomla and Drupal, it's just like a Wordpress with different interface.

What specific features are you loooking for that you need to switch to another platform?

Stay away from Joomla if you're a non-tech guy. It's a great system but not very user friendly.

        I would, personally

But then that's me... Joomla is a powerful content management system but it lacks in a few features that have been in WordPress for ages.

Also, many have complained about WordPress's WYSIWYG editor... I can tell you from plenty experience that it's much better than Joomla's (I might get crucified here, but it's true).

I can't really speak for Drupal, but I have yet to find anything better than WordPress, especially for non-techies.

It really all boils down to what you are trying to do. You have to consider what elements and features and attributes you want in your site and go from there.

You can opt for joomla but chances are there that you'll get some difficulties. It's really true that unless you're having good technical know-how joomla could be critical in some parts. Also WordPress is much better with it's unique features and also user friendly. So better you stick with WordPress.

I agree with some of the others: it depends on what you want to do. There are some super themes out there built just for affiliate marketing and ecommerce, like OptimizePress and Flexsqueeze, to name a few. Wordpress has been taken by storm by internet marketers for it's ease-of-use and quick formatting time. Perhaps if you are having difficulties, you may want to consider another theme that's more friendly to what you want to create.

Ease of use? Did you really feel that way first time you used Wordpress? I know I did not. I quit and went back to html for awhile. I came back after awhile and learned it.

I would stick with WordPress and maybe look into a good theme like Socrates Theme to make it easier to create sites.

They offer a 7 day free trial no credit card required. Give it a try and give me a shout if you need any tips.

Both Joomla and wordpress are very good CMS available upto now. You can use any of them according to your requirements. If you have tried wordpress, now you can try joomla for your new website.

Thank you. Do you know if Joomla offers a reoccurring fee based membership/network plugin?

Any advantages to using Joomla instead of Wordpress?

Joomla has a collection of very powerful membership extensions available to purchase. Integrating them and customizing them for your needs can be very time consuming though. One extension I would recommend is AEC.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm I am in the exact same boat as you. Surprising to me that there is nothing better especially considering how long the internet has been accessible to so many people.

But after reading the replies it doesn't seem to be. Maybe this will be like hotmail where it is just a given that there is free email which works pretty darn well.

In 5 years MAYBE it will be taken for granted that a company came out with something MUCH better than wordpess/Joomla and what else is available out there now. (fingers crossed )

  • Why don't you like WP? It is probably the best way to go. What are you looking to do that you can't do i nWP?

Ease of use I believe is what the OP is saying. Something say as easy to use and create as MS Word. I know to programmers or web guys WP is a snap.

Sort of like Jeopardy is a very easy game to play if you know the answers. For us who are not versed in this sort of thing WP is a PIA and our sites don't come out looking all that good.

As evidenced by how many people jumped on the deal posted by a WF member who was offering to build WP websites for $200.

I just took a quick look at Drupa.

Is that an online web development site?

If not how is it easier when you have to download then upload files etc?

    Thanks!

Hey, I've always liked MODx CMS. Easy to learn and understand, customizable, great open-source support community, ability to add e-commerce with FoxyCart. Lots of positive people involved in the project. I've found the software itself to be very reliable. Its at modx.com.

You can't completely wrap your head around it in a day, but I've found it to be easier to grasp than Joomla and Drupal. The only CMS I've found that I liked, that was easier, was Nucleus, which is very solid and bulletproof.

i've been using joomla since it was mambo - 6 yrs... once I got over the learning curve - i use it for everything. I have challenged it several times and it has answered my challenges -
ecomm - i manage/have built ecom sites with it (virtuemart)
directory - sobi and moset tree
    community interaction - community builder
community and directory - community builder and moset tree
newsletter management - acymailing - creates pages in your site, manages users, sends email, tracks stats
photo galleries - tons of options
    forum - kunena
    invoicing and billing even

there's even apps (called extensions in Joomla! world) that integrate with your phone and you can create and manage your sites right from your smart phone (joooid)

like the iphone commercials - "there's an app for that". i have yet to not find an answer to any of my website needs with Joomla! and the 10,000s of extensions available

I have a programming background and have to say that Wordpress is the easiest platform out there.

Drupal and Joomla are quite nice, especially Drupal since it has more security power.

For semi noob people, or even noob, I'd still recommend Wordpress to them.
