Just login to your cPanel and remove the index, and search for any shells. Hopefully you have any backups to restore your website.

P.S.: Make sure to change all your connection details (FTP username, FTP password etc). The "hacker" might regain access if you don't do this.

Just an FYI... Most of my experience says that hackers don't erase files, they simply inject new files to make it look like they've taken over the site. They do this usually by attacking things like "open" directories. htaccess files or databases.

Going even further... Most of the time, hacking can be prevented by a GOOD hosting company.

I've seen TONS of sites get hacked, including my own... Please let me know if you need help with this.

In most cases hackers used to place another index file (index.html mostly) and might not have not much damange. You can restore it if you have backup files and database

Hackers want you to see how 'clever' they've been so they rarely bother tinkering with stuff that you will just put down to being a code glitch. They REALLY want you to know that you've been hacked.

So change your ftp password and username, plus that of any database and then set about deleting their work.

Looks like you were hacked by these guys zone-h.com

Just google your domain and there site appears in the results along with your site in some kind of "Hacked sites" Archive.

They'll just deface your website, and usually use your website for some kind of phising scam.

I received an email once by google when I was hacked by the same hackers. letting me know that my sites being using for phising scams and my domains been blocked. And that there aware its not my fault its and exploit in the linux server that most hosting providers use.

Change your passwords, and restore from back up... If your can't just delete any suspicious files.

zone-h is just a mirror of hacked sites. they have nothing to do with the actual attackers.

as for your attack, it was a defacement if the index was changed and those attackers usually just want to show off. however, only chnaging the username and password won't help in many cases since it doesn't close the bug the attacker used to get it. what CMS do you use (if any)? if its something like drupal its swiss cheese for a hacker as it has so many critical bugs especially in the plugins. make sure to update all software you run on your server such as apache, mysql, cpannel, cups, ssh, ftp and so on.

Please don't post links to hacked sites in public forums. People might click on the link out of curiosity and can be subject to viruses which the hackers will place on the hacked sites.
