I am going to be starting a WordPress site that will allow users to subscribe at one of three levels. Each level will grant them access to specific resources on the website. The content on the website will be very heavy in video and audio based media.

So my question is what to look for when wanting to do what I have listed. I have access to the themes at ElegantThemes but I am not sure what of those themes, if any, will work well as a paid subscription site. Are there any themes you would recommend? I have been referred to the pluggin titled "Paid Member Pluggin" for creating the membership process. Are there any other recommended pluggins. Any other obvious things that I might be missing?

I have made several WP sites before, but never a paid subscription site and just wanted some advice fromt he experts. Thank you all for your time!

There are tons of Wordpress membership scripts. I recommend you search this forum for "Wordpress membership scripts" or "Wordpress membership site". There are some really good threads (posts) where people go deep into "what they like" about such and such script (and what they don't like). Extremely informative, and sometimes the creators of the scripts even chime in.

As far as your theme goes, it doesn't really matter. You'll just have to set up the members area welcome page (with linked navigation in the sidebar?).

If you want a theme that's specifically for a membership site then check out Optimize Press. You'd still need a membership script. But it's already "set up" as a membership site.

Go to WordPress.org/extend/plugins and search for plugins. There are some really good plugins for membership sites.

For theme, pick any good one and integrate the plugin with it.

Or, look for a theme that comes bundled with membership features. Be ready to make some changes to suit your needs.

The theme doesn't make any difference use whatever you want.

There are a number of free and paid membership plugins that you can use, look for one with good security, multi level membership sites and easy to configure and use.

If you search these forums for "membership plugins" there are loads of threads with useful (and not so useful) info.

On here, myself (Your Members), Ravi (DAP) and Gleb (MemberWing) are normally around to ask questions, other big players in the market are WishList (over priced, under featured, under supported and not developer friendly in my opinion), s2Member and WPMU Dev's Membership.
