I told my mentor programmer to teach me programming. He said am to old to learn it but am beginning to think he's not telling the truth. May i know what you think about my mentor response? I'll appreciate your consent.

Unless you are 125, I seriously doubt you are too old to learn it.

If you want to learn programming, give yourself a task, then figure out how to do it.

    Great sites for learning include:

    php.net
    wordpress.org
    tizag.com

I self-taught myself PHP at the age of 40, although I did have previous programming eduction in the 80's.

I see no reason why you could not learn to program if you wanted to. I taught my 85 year old grandfather to use a computer, word processor, internet etc and he eventually picked it up just fine.

He was well impressed when I showed him all the WW2 bombers on youtube!

Anyway, I think the main thing with programming is that you actually sit down and practice as you read. Simply reading a book from start to finish does not enable to really learn anything.

As long as you're enjoying what you are doing I think it's possible to learn almost anything at any age.

you listened to him ? I never heard of that before, he could say that you don't have the ability to be pro if he doubt your ability to understand but never too old to learn.

More likely the dude was looking for an excuse that would give him cover for not wanting to teach.

Age does not matter to learn, what matters is your willingness to learn programming.

There is no age for learning. As everyday we learn something. If you really need to learn programming you must go for google.

The only limitation on learning a new skill is you alone, you can do anything you want no one can stop you except yourself, find your self a new guru,

How is he a "programmer mentor" if he won't teach you?

Not only that, he is negative.

    Get a new mentor.

you don't need a mentor. there are plenty of tutorials online. Start with the basic. Decide what language you want to learn. (PHP, Javascript, ASP, RoR, etc.). Learn the basic syntax. solve simple problems first and gradually challenge yourself. some people are not born with this talent so have a feel for it first.
